What are some of your favorite ropes and why? Also, how does the construction of the rope affect how it preforms, such as the fly which is a kermantle versus the poison ivy which is a double braid?

I really like poison ivy, and hivy. They are smaller than half inch, which I really like, But are beefy enough to get a good hold on. I have rather large paws so the beefier rope is easier to footlock on, etc.

Blue moon is wespurs version of poison ivy and hivy, I also like it an awful lot.

I would not know what the difference between kermantle and double braid would be as far as performance. I cant remember, but one may hold up better than the other. If I tell you anymore than that I would be lying to you!!! HAHAHA

I really like the feel of the velocity. You can have it hi-vis or not and it's low stretch so you can use it for SRT or DdRT. I have smaller hands and the smaller diameter of the line is perfect for me. Even poison Ivy seems a little clunky for me. Works well with mechanical devices and interacts well with a large variety of friction hitch materials...I just really like this line!

Fly really isn't a kernmantle construction in classic rope nomenclature. It leans more towards double braid I think.

Weight and volume in my pack are two nice features of Tachyon. The bright colors make it easy to track in the tree. Maximum impact at work, minimum impact at play.

Since Fly came on the market I haven't climbed on anything but 11mm ropes. Having ropes that work with mechanical devices is important to me. The rope performance is subtly different in each rope though.

With so many in-house rope configurations it's hard to keep track of which ropes are the same in different colors. Then, does the color difference and fiber content effect the rope performance?

The only difference with colour is visibility for those on the ground. This is of particular importance when working over high traffic areas. People will see an orange rope more readily than a green or blue. Not that they won't walk under you, just will realize something is up...

I like the Firefly but think I'd like to try out a firmer rope. Just not sure which one.

Right now I'm on the Fly. Actually, I've been on it for about 2 or 3 years. Not much to say about it. The feel is nice, but it has more "bounce" then other ropes. The splice is also something I dislike. Not a clean splice.

But for christmas, I'm hoping for a hank of Tachyon!! I've climbed on it a few times and really like the overall feel. It has a clean splice, and I believe it performs better with friction hitches than the Fly does. Way smoother advancing an descending on the hitch.

I have been on poison ivy.I know it's good rope, but i have really thick hands,i can barley feel this rope in my hand and it is a little squishy for my taste. I am actually looking for something a little fatter and a little more stiff. Maybe i will go back to the fly?

i still live on true blue. when it first touched my hands i said thats the one but i said that about my ex-wife too. maybe a little behind in times but ol' blue never let me down so i return the service.
