Ropes course

The day before I went to the ITCC I had to prune a bunch of 100+ woods trees. Me, Rory and one ground guy (Rob) spent the day in the woods with no equipment. Just climbing gear and a couple of saws.

The job was to prune the hazard limbs over top of a ropes course that went through these beautiful woods. Of course you can't expect us to not play a little bit right? Here's Rory after he dropped down onto one section.

Some really cool tasks were setup on this course. They had a pole (30') with a 2'x2' platform on top. You had to climb up and stand on this square and then leap across to about 6' away and grab a trapeze. They even had a rock wall. Pretty neat stuff.

WHat a neat set up, And absolutely would have to play a bit. Diversity day to day sure beats doing the same thing every day. Let's not forget the wealth of personality types we meet on a daily basis(clients) Some you click with some you don't. Its a good excercise in PR.

Yeah up at the campus we are subjected to the same deal over and over then move on to a new place. It is when we get in the trees that people start to talk and ask and we have fun. On the side jobs that we do we love it cause we have lots of new areas to play in.

I started my vertical life on a course quite similar to that one.

In Boy Scouts, we had the C.O.P.E (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experiance)Course. Our trapeze was at the top of the "Giants Ladder". Climbing up timbers strung between a cable at each end. The distance betweeen the timbers varried from 3' to around 6' give or take. Get to the last rung and then you have to get onto of the phone pole that was lying horizonally (the ladder hung from it). Walk down the pole and leep out for the trapeze. After a couple years I became an instructor, lotta fun watching the local university cheerleaders going through the events various high and low course events :).

I aint scared of heights, falling is what gets me!

That photo brings back some memories. I was a Ropes Course Director for the YMCA for a while. We had two courses one on an island on a lake , all natural set up on Hemlocks and the other course was phone poles. Probably the best job of my life and it taught me alot about people and how they deal with pressure and problem solving.
