Rope walking

Mahk;
You should have something to tail the rope.
Without it there's a bit of a struggle for the first 10' or so.
Some guys will secure their chainsaw to the rope but I could never get comfortable with having an oily saw hanging on my climbing rope.

I had an idea which might work for you although i haven't tried it out yet.
for the set up you would need a self advancing system like a lock jack
I personally climb with a shunt
anyway, you would need to fix your set up further away from your harness than normal, perhaps by clipping it into a sling attached to your harness.
Then attach the pantin to your left foot, and a handled ascender to your rope(below your lockjack) with your right foot attached to this via a footloop
this way i think you should be able to walk the rope whilst your system automatically ascends
the only reason i havent tried this yet is as i dont have a pantin or a handled ascender, so if anyone has, and can be bothered to give this a try, let me know!

I have been kicking around the idea of trying to make my pantin work as a simulated rope walker.

I just got linked to this thread from the "backing up a footlocker" thread. Did you ever get this figured out?

To be a true ropewalker, requires a chest roller or ascender to keep the body upright, close to the rope, and as an above center of gravity safety. The bungee is only to to help lift the foot and knee ascenders as you step up.

What makes the ropewalker so efficient is that it's all legs and no arms. In fact, you can eat your lunch while climbing the rope. And it's just fast little steps with the legs at maximum strength, literaly like walking up the rope.

Robert;
I read about this in On Rope and didn't give it much thought until I saw the DVD, Bogachiel Valley Spruce.
I didn't want the chest harness because I use this method at work and don't climb to great heights but I still needed to be semi proficient.
I was able to utilize what I already had without buying anything new and it has made a big difference in my ability to get up there!
There is an attachment in this thread with the set up I use.
Thanks for your interest in this thread.
