rope and technique id

Hi,need help to identify this rope is 12mm and the guy who gave it to me said it doesnt melt and the best splicing method,is this a double braid?

Looks like Ocean Polyester. A blend of polyester and aramid sheath with polyester core. I have had success with a class 1 double braid...if you want cordage that is more heat resistant try 8 mm HRC. It has nomex in it, which is a flame retardent fibre...much different splice.
 
I believe Nick has a great taper trick for this one, should be listed in a thread called something like Ocean Polyester splicing instructions IIRC

cheers everyone here is the updated used ocean polyester 10mm??? into a friction hitch and the start of a pulley/cambium saver

Comparing the size of the eye to the carabiner the cord looks like 10mm. There doesn’t appear to be any change in size below the eye like a typical double braid splice, are you using a different method?
