Root Rot

Location
Chicago
Pulled this White Oak off this house yesterday. Massive rot with NO visable signs, spooky.

I couldn't tell from the picture or the wreck of a tree that was left, but was there no noticable trunk flare? Usually when they are that far gone, they start looking like bells. I usually look for that before (but never in place of) I even check for fruiting bodies etc.
Well no matter what, nasty mess, bet it was loads of fun.

Access for the crane was bad so we trimmed it back first before getting a crane for the big bits.

From this point on we ended up standing on the owners bed, cutting chumks and throwing them out of where the window used to be, in the right hand gable end which is missing! The owners were in bed at the time it went over but were cut free un harmed!

We only had to cut two roots, one can be seen to the front, to lift the base out. Not sure how it stayed up so long!

Yeah sorry about that one, it was me. Like you say these things often get caught on camera. Also the grab operator has no helmet! I was waiting for someone to point that out, but thought the pics were still worth sharing.

The log truck is a JCB Fastrack. Nice bit of kit. Top speed of about 50-55mph and very manouvreable. The grab is a bit weak, hence the small rings. We could have used the crane to load it but wouldn't have been able to unload in the yard. Its not mine by the way, I wish!
