Roe v Wade overturned

An admission that he, Donald J Trump, is sexually attracted to his own daughter. Super creepy!
That is super creepy. No question. No excuse. There. I said it.

Will you admit the same? Does it even matter anymore? Are ALL national politicians grotesquely corrupt? Seems like it. Sad.

What’s more interesting to me is that many probably have never heard of this story. Not a conspiracy. NYT covered it, but barely. Biden’s daughter Ashley wrote in her diary that she had showered with her dad at an inappropriate age. Undisputed. No big deal I guess. Not a story.

Not to mention the fact that the FBI raided the home of the man who obtained the diary in order to reclaim it and shut the story down. Silly feds. They needn’t have bothered. It not a story if the lapdog media won’t cover it anyway. The Big Guy was never in any real danger of being exposed.

It's almost universally acknowledged that regardless of political, ethical, or religious leanings all people who seek power (whether political or corporate) have clear narcissistic traits. So it's not really surprising that they all do stuff that average people wouldn't find questionable. To them it's normal, because they're consumed with themselves.

I’m not sure that “all” is quite the correct word, but for certain quite a lot of people who seek power can be included in this statement. I will certainly concur with that.

Sadly I agree. We are no longer led by the best among us, but the most self-impressed and therefore the boldest. I don’t even have a Facebook account, so little do I value the importance of my opinions compared to others. Treebuzz is as close as I get to social media!

I doubt he’s medicated. Fucken high as a kite is more likely
Trump says he has never done drugs, but have you ever seen the video of himself and Jeffrey Epstein perving on chicks at Mago Lago?

That my friends is Donald Trump's brain high on what appears to be cocaine...That's the dude who pick our last 3 SCOTUS's folks. A "pussy-grabbin" clownstick with a killer coke connection who hung out with a serial rapist/pedophile, and himself (Trump) has incestuous tendencies....I think that about sums it up.

161 pages into the Dobbs v Jackson docs, and into the dissent. I've copied/pasted a bunch of things, way too much to post on here. I am actually enjoying reading it, getting an insight into what each side was thinking and how they were perceiving things. I highly recommend reading through the concur and dissent of these cases, if the topic interests you...and you have time lol.

There is sections of the Roe v Wade docs that I want to relook at once done here

But for now the bed is calling. :estudioso:

Would love to hear thoughts on whether women should be allowed to cross state lines for abortion services?

I'm waiting for Cruz and Abbott to start advocating Build the Wall on Texas' western, northern and eastern borders too.

Politicians in states like mine are likely to pass legislation barring such things to curry favor with the Radical Right. It doesn't really matter if it's unconstitutional. They score political points even if it's struck down by the courts.

I'm not familiar with legal theories that could prevent it. Could it lead to women being charged with a crime if they had an abortion in a state where abortion is legal and then travel or move to a state where it's illegal? What's next? Passports for interstate travel?

Reminds me of the lottery. We've never been able to get a lottery in Alabama despite many attempts over the years. (Guess who opposes it.) Alabamians just spend millions, if not billions, in neighboring states playing the lottery. I don't know if similar issues have already arisen with recreational marijuana.

If there is anything to potentially look forward to from this ruling it is the future studies.

For those who haven't read Freakonomics or aren't familiar, there is a theory about the relationship between abortion and crime rates. The idea being that between 1973 (Roe v Wade) and the early 90s there was a steady and noticeable decline in crime rates as a result of "unwanted" children not being born into circumstances where there was a greater potential to become future criminals.

Obviously, there are other theories as to why the crime rate declined, but the overturning of Roe v Wade provides one of the few opportunities to support or debunk one of the most famous of these theories. Unfortunately, we won't know for 20 or so years when this new cohort of "unwanted" reach prime criminal age.

a greater potential to become future criminals.

With this single point causation theory there is something that's missed. Rather than putting the drop in the crime rate on the birth or non-birth of an individual look at how an unwanted pregnancy effects a family unit.

A quick comment on this, while I'm on lunch. As much as I feel abortion is murder, and you can't murder someone in another state and then be free once you cross state lines, I don't see this happening and passing legal muster (unless no abortion would become a federal law). Nor do I really think it should happen (unless no abortion becomes federal law).

From reading the court docs that I've read so far, I don't see any of the justices being OK with it...a state to state travel ban for it.

Two I personally think it was extremely unconstitutional to prevent travel from one state to another if one was unvaccinated, especially after it was proven that the vaccine didn't protect one from getting covid or ftom spreading it. Add to that, that even if you proved you already had covid, carried the anti bodies, but never been vaccinated you still couldnt...without jumping through many many more hoops then some who was vaccinated. I say this because I feel freedom to travel (with in the USA) is a very core constitutional right/freedom. So in this abortion issue I personally feel the state can't restrict the right of travel, nor do I believe that they should be able to prosecute her on return. The fight isn't there, imo...the fight would be a federal law.

This was actually a major issue up here during the pandemic. Our constitution clearly states freedom of movement within the country and some provinces were closing their borders to non-essential travellers, essentially removing a constitutional right. The justification came through the use of emergency acts (martial law lite), which allows for the temporary suspension of constitutional rights. It's still a contentious issue in Canada and the federal government is under inquiry for it's justification in using those powers.

Quick question on businesses paying for for abortions and/or travel expensives. What is cheaper, paying for an abortion or paid maternity leave?

Just a quick search says an abortion costs around $750, and recover period is 1-2 days until normal activity. Maternity leave the avg time off work is 9-12 weeks, and roughly 1/3 never return to work. From a business perspective, I can see why so many businesses are jumping on helping one get an abortion.

I also have to say reading the dissent is frustrating. It is almost like reading through this entire thread.

I feel the "left" (Dissent side) is very condescending towards the "right" (majority), in their verbiage and attitude when talking about majority decision and almost about them personally. So far most of their points are political, attacking, just wanting it because it has been the law of the land for 50 years, or fear mongering points that it is going to change all these other things...that have nothing to do with a human life that makes this a different case

Where as the "right" (majority) were mostly just discussing the case and explaining/backing up their arguement. They clearly defined why this case would not snowball into other cases.

PS I am not saying everyone has been this way in this thread. I have been enjoying most/majority of the conversations and debate here, and feel for the most part it has stayed drama free (from both sides). It has made me look into things more than I have before...hasnt changed my opinion but has made me more informed.

such a cold hearted and narrow analysis.

Businesses have made that decision since forever. US Steel dumped asbestos laden iron ore tailings into Lake Superior for decades because it was less expensive than doing the right thing. Until Judge Miles Lord made them change their ways.

Consider that health care is a personal issue not a social one. No one's business what anyone else does to their body.
