Rock stars

You can see all the rock bolts that were put into just this small section of rock back in 1972. There are literally 100’s of bolts like this all along the rock face

The rock bolts were pre-stressed before the initial install in '72 and Janod tested them again while they were up there. Any one that didn’t meet specific criteria was replaced. In some areas we installed additional bolts to re-enforce the ones that were there.

Here is a roadside view. The scalers did most of their work much higher than this

This is Janods drill rigged that the company custom manufactured and uses on their jobs. Other companies have since come up with their own rigs. Here the worker is drilling a new hole for a rock bolt on the lower face

Last picture. You can see the worker installing a very long tendon, which goes in deeper than the rock bolts. The crane is supporting it while the worker installs it.

Thanks moss. I have a whole bunch of photos if people care to see them.

Yeah, I was hoping that Nat Geo wasn't going to portray them as cowboys like the History Channel did with Axemen. Nat Geo has a higher standard IMO, but the ratings seem to be all that count these days.

We've also used these guys before too, but they are not quite as top notch as Janod. Not saying anything bad about them, just that they were the lowest bidder on our job and Janod's price came in higher.

LOL, OK call it whatever you want bro, it's just words and I'm sure that people can relate to prying better than scaling anyways.

So, what did you think of their gear? Nothing too fancy, but there is definitely technique involved in their work if that little guy was able to outwork the others.

Maybe Kevin could introduce them to the Rope Wrench?

Just funnin wit ya Chris. I agree the little guy just blew them away clearing the same space in what 2 hours faster than the rest of the guys. Big drama when he went up top and hid and goofed off with that time.

They threw in a few hotties that are real easy on the eyes too. Fun series to follow...dvr'ed it.
