Ring Failure

Has anyone found out if the RING in question had a crack in it prior to breakage?

Hi KyLimbwalker I have just received a spec sheet from CT showing the new markings for the rings. They will have the CT logo, Made in Italy, 25kN, and a 4 digit batch number.
These will be laser marked onto the ring.

If you need any other info, please do not hesitate to mail me or PM me during this week (the following 3 weeks I will be away from the office and may not get on the Buzz so often - work mails I have more access too when out and about)

Best regards
Ben

Thank you very much, Ben. I know several climbers echo this sentiment.

I am quite sure if the ring in question had a crack in it prior to breaking... it never would have passed gear inspection.

This is true. I personally checked the ring by visual examination and was not able to discern any crack. This is why the failure was so scary.

Just a quick reminder to everybody: The suppliers and manufacturers that have participated directly or indirectly in this important thread are:

Anchor Bridge
Sherrill
WesSpur
Treemagineers
DMM
Climbing Technology (CT)
Bartlett Arborist Supply & Mfg. Co.
Safety Technology (Treeflex)

Not that this is the end of the thread, but as a climber,I want to thank you all for addressing this issue to this point.

Again, please pipe up if I'm wrong (and agree if I'm right), but the three resolved issues of demand for rings are:

1. A clear Brand label etched on each ring
2. Individual proof testing of each ring
3. A clear load rating etched on each ring

Whew.

bah Aluminum is so over rated. Try Titanium. Makes me sick to my tummy, these harness whores, charge you an arm and a leg for their product but yet can't use a metal that wont rust, stronger than steel, and lighter then aluminum.

I say protest them all refuse to buy their substanard products. revote and make them use proper materials.

I only said that cuz....this issue has made folks poo poo alumninum to steel.

yes steel is better for certain apps

what the big learning is......accountability. Proof test a biner....proof test a ring. no biggie, cept more dollars.

I have to applaud Sherrill for a certified letter I recieved. Cost them 5 bucks. They are doing thier best to get the word out.

put away the hammers folks

Yeah I was expecting a price like that.

This is one of them times you get what you pay for. Unlike most of the toys pawned to you for twice the price.
