Rigging a 200 Foot Zipline

At least you weren't wearing a chainlink fence, that's another zipline testing story from the urban archives ;-)

Ok, ok, I wasn't wearing the fence but I lucked out and was able to kick the top of it and bounce over, not pretty. Learning the hard way, my favorite!

SRT makes it possible.

I often use the wrench to zip to another tree - toss the monkey fist, groundie holds or locks tail, I zip across usually slow and careful but I bet the Akimbo makes it better - nice cameo in the vid there btw

Ha! I think if you hit the fence it's called a Steve Mcqueen.

Ya, I need a quick exit in case the trolley jammed near the top when I was still 10 feet up

Great info here. I never thought about the trolley getting stuck!
I have been wanting to make one that goes very fast over Water. I would like the rider to be able to put their feet on the water as if they were doing a swoop under a high performance parachute.

Trolleys tend to jam more in Steel cable lines or if the rope is mismatched with the trolley, but sometime a stray twig from above can jam into the pulley and leave you dangling.

I have made a lot of cabled runs as well, but rope is more fun to work with and it gives you enough stretch that you usually don't have to build a brake box (long heavy wooden cube with a hole for the cable to pass through, usually tethered with bungees near the end of the run) to keep from slamming the tree at the bottom.

I had a groundie follow me to clean out a block pulley and an x ring in two separate trees. Wanted to get him some climbing experience. He got stuck on the traverse with the rw/hitch combo. Had to manhandle his weight off the system, disengage the wrench and take it off, and then continue with just the hitch cord.

What is your favorite rope to use on your zip Lines?

I want to know what happens if someone goes into panic mode and fails to release from the zip line,,

I practice "adventure by choice" with my zip line riders, I clip the back of the trolley to a Wichard snap release on a sling anchored back to the tree. I ask them to tell me when they're ready to go then pull the trigger when they are. I've never had anyone fail to go but some need to wait a little bit. I talk to them, it's an interesting bit of therapy for some. I don't believe in pushing people off cliffs, it's great for them to be in control and choose when to fly.
