Rhino throw line

Does anyone have experience with this product? I recently purchased a 300 ft. spool and have been put off by the way the dye in/on this line wipes off on everything. I haven't used it yet, just handled a few feet of it off the spool and it is a mess. I think when wet it could be really ugly. Is this normal for Rhino line?

Sorry to those who visit asite for duplicate subject thread...

Rhino is my favorite throw line. The red dye does get on things, but it wears off of the line very quickly and I have never had a problem with it staining other items. Like all throw line its a bit kinky right off the spool, but that also goes away quickly. It's diameter is 2.0, right between the two Zing-It sizes (2.2 and 1.75) and for me this is the perfect diameter. I find it to be tougher than Z-It and it seems to fly better through the air and run better through a crotch.

Just my opinion, but I think that Z-It is one product whose popularity is due more to good marketing than to high performance.

I love the stuff !just as already posted the dye does not last .It does tend to kink and tangle easily until it gets broken in a bit .It seem s to be more accurate than Zing-it for me,goes higher and runs smoother........for me at least.

Thanks, guys. I reckon I'll just go with it and let the dye do it's thing until it goes away. Mahk, your reason for choosing Rhino because it's diameter falls between the two Zingit sizes is exactly my own. I have been using 1/8" (~3mm.)kernmantle for many years, and it has been quite satisfactory and very nice to handle; I was pretty sure I'd have trouble with 1.75mm, but wanted to try a smaller line, hence the Rhino.

Any suggestions for short-cutting the break-in period to get to the best handling characteristics with Rhino?

Ihave big pile for me in my mini cube this morning, stuff flys with a 12ozball.And BC my line got wet and the red still comes off on your hands and everything else. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

A line cube seems to help some , could not have a bag for storage.

I have a big nest of old rhino on my apartment porch. The old junk is my utility twine. I will never go back to using that brand. The spectra line with a 12 or 14 oz johnny ball is the way to go b/c my friend Johnny ball man said so!

Burnham,

I have gone back to using zing it, but I found that once it is broken in, the rhino line is a decent throwline. Don't throw it out just yet.

BC You have it so use it. If you're looking for simplicity, fell the tree and there you have it. The limb will be right in front of you. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

BC, Take it to a tree show and pawn it off on someone who wants it, then you can get back to the old stuff that you are comfortable with. But if that seems unreasonable, use it until it wears out, then throw it away. Perhaps it would work as deep sea fishing line? /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well, I reckon I'm going to give it a try... I think I'm going to lay it out and tie it in a loop around 4 or 5 trees, then chuck up the spool in my 1/2 in. low speed drill. Put a couple of turns of the Rhino around the spool and spin it slowly around the trees a bit to try breaking it in fast, and hopefully rub off most of the unfixed dye. Don't know if this will work or not...
Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Yo-

Stay away from zee zingit also that stuff nests even better than the rhino.....the spectra yellow is zee bomb....

Thanks, Banditosan...are you talking about 2.5mm Siderwire? I think go ahead and give the Rhino a try, and keep your suggestion in mind for next time. Since I'm using 3mm throwline now, I'd like to find something that is smaller than 2.5mm, but maybe that is the way to go.

Burnham,

For 90% of my work I use the 1.75mm zing it and a 10oz weight. This combo works well for hand tossing and with the big shot I can regularly do 120' this way. I do get the occasional snarl, but I think if I get the F-cube I can mostly solve that problem.

Fold and hold cubes rule! I got one this year for Christmas and it works great. I have two 1.75mm zing its sepperated by a piece of cardboard. I used a New Tribe throwline bag before and it was really hard to stuff. I also got a Line Tamer which works pretty well. /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif
