Review of Chainsaw Pants

I have the arbortec breathflex in black and the lime color,I have the medium regulars in black and they are a little short and baggy so I got the small longs in lime . The lime fit is great except a little long but I still like wearing them a ton and the extra length is great with spurs on removals . I have the Pfanner vent in a small long and they fit great , they are a little heavier, hotter and less flexible then the Arbortecs . But I still like the pfanners a lot , they have a more stylish fit then the arbortecs , but are little less comfortable in my opinion. I've had several other chainsaw pants through the years and both of these are leaps and bounds better then any of them .

Steve, have you ever worn the husqvarnas chainsaw pants? They are the only ones I have tried so far and I was just wondering if there is a huge difference between those and the three that you have so thoroughly tested.
I had a pair of the new husqvarna technical pants and they where a little baggy and short so I gave them to one of my guys . They only come in a 32 " inseam which makes no sense to me , BTW my employee really likes them but not in the heat .

Ok, I bought the Sherrill pants since they gave me 20% off. I figured I'd give them a try to see if they'd work out as a less expensive option for the company to supply. The week in them was good. Definitely need a belt or suspenders with them but the stretch and lightweight make them very comfortable. BUT! I went to throw them in the wash and find out that they are hand wash in cold water!!! Who makes work pants that get as much ground in dirt was we get hand wash only!?!?!? Grrrrrr…. I'm going to try the delicate cycle and hope for the best….o_O

When washing these expensive garments what sort of detergent are you folks using? I bought the expensive sport wash from EMS and the run them through a second cycle of wash in water repellent.

Pfanner makes a detergent for washing their pants but, you can't find it here.

If you've got a modern, low suds machine that doesn't have an agitator up the middle of the tub, the delicate cycle works fine on hand washable only items. They're also the very best machines for washing ropes!
Thanks, Jeff, that's kinda what I thought just found the labeling kinda stupid. @seanlarkin are you listening?

What's hard on these fibers is the bleaches and detergents... what you want is laundry soap... there is no actual saponification of oils in the process of making detergents and the crap they call bar soap in the stores... but you can find good stuff if you look. This one can be found in grocery stores that have an organic or environmentally sound products section. Call it lefty, hippy crap if you want, but this is a great product. It won't brighten up heavily used clothes/ropes like a lot of bleach and detergent will (at the expense of literally degrading the fibers each time) but it will get them clean and won't hurt them a damn bit. I've linked this pic a dozen times, not because they give me a kickback, but because it works and it doesn't dry out the fibers or break them down. It's essentially saponified coconut oil with some very good smelling aromatic oils in there. It will make the whole house/shop smell great while you wash your ropes and chainsaw pants. Several scents available. Try it once and you'll become a believer.

Sorry for the late response. I just got done hand washing all of my pants. The caution isn't related to the detergents used, it has to do with the potential of the protective fibers to migrate if washed in an aggressive machine. Chainsaw protective fibers are loose, and not woven, to give them the saw jamming properties. Avoiding machine washing is a common warning for chainsaw protective clothing.

What does that have to do with pants?
