Retrievable redirect

This retrievable redirect was shown to me by Cormac. I think Scott Forrest or James Kilpatrick showed him. I got this picture from TreeWorld.com.

Extremely simple and effective.

To retrieve, spliced eye passes through Revolver and catches on mini biner connected to tail rope. Use tail rope to pull spliced end back. You can also attach tail rope to pull the redirect out if you think it won't come out easily.

Nice trick. But, I've been simply asking for the goundie to pass me another rope lately.

I like it better than redirects.

i like it,took me a couple minutes to figure it out though.Thats probably the simplest retrievable redirect Ive seen.Funny I was just thinking how I use to like tree buzz because I actually learned new tricks. But lately its become more of a place where a bunch of dudes bicker. Thanks Cory I got a new trick in my bag.

Looks to me like you could just let it slide down your climb line on the pulley. I like it, the only thing I worry about is if something goes wrong in retrieval you are kinda stuck.

Right, the redirect sling slides down the hitch side of your line. You can rig your tail rope to the other side of the redirect as well (in the image the carabiner with the pulley on it), so you can pull it from the fork.

If something goes wrong, you're stuck. What could go wrong?

no, its double rope off of a pulley, this photo was taken as i stood there thinking of weather or not i should just cut my ropes kill myself. I removed this tree free o charge to help out a co worker who had just left for armed forces training. The tree was a lot bigger than he had said over the phone......

I've been doin the same thing, but I use a Petzl Fixe on the opposite side of the Revolver to retrieve and 1/8" diameter parachute cord I get at REI.

I really like this technique because its low on extra gear. Cormac used his footlock prussic rather than a dedicated sling. Add a micro pulley, a revolver, and a mini biner for retrieval. I just used two revolvers the other day and that worked well.

Pulleys and the like help prevent the sling from creeping around the branch, when using this type of redirect. And/or creating more friction between the sling and the branch. i.e. How you orient the sling can make or break the technique.

I've got a redirect that is remotely retrievable AND remotely installable. Interested?
