Retrievable redirect for SRT

Often, when I set a static redirect, I'm doing so in order to create a gin-pole effect out of the branch. The only way to do this is to use the leg of rope going back to the previous union as a back stay to turn the redirect branch into compression. I'll have to see if it can be done and still be retrievable with the method posted by David. The only other issue I can imagine is a bunch rope (3 legs?) kicking around while climbing in a bight and using the tail as retrieval. One of my draws to SRWP is how little rope you can set yourself up to manage...keeping it clean and simple.

Dave thanks for the link. I tried it out today and works real smooth! If you don't want to bring your whole tail up you can use an alpine butterfly for retrieval.

I do not have a Facebook account, but would love to see the redirect. Is it on YouTube?

Says it's open to the public. The guys name is Dan Curtis.

I’m really liking the retrievable redirect that DSM showed us of Dan Curtis! You have some different option on retrieval. One is using an alpine butterfly knot if you aren’t traveling to far and don’t want to pull your whole tail up. The other is connecting your tail to the top of the bight with carabiner. Works Awesome! The main thing to keep in mind is having enough rope for the distance you travel. You need enough rope to be able to haul back retrieval ring. A different option for decent and retrieval is flip the wrench backwards on to the bite of your line . runs smoother this way.

The thing that's cool about the last option is if you need to go back up, it works as a good hall back System. I for got how to post pics on here but just posted a pice on Single rope junkies

There are a couple groups on Facebook that are very informative specifically for SRT. Single rope Junkies And I love SRT. If it were easier to post pics it would be nice.

Bob we missed you at the rec climb man. That trip you were on look really Cool! I Loved your pictures!

Sorry, Ian, too jet lagged to get into climbing in the rain. And all the other things involved in re-entry. Would have loved to come and share some pics. Btw the trip was awesome.

Now, how does one get to Single Rope Junkies, I googled it and didn't find any pics of which you speak.

Never did find Dan's vid (no facebook), but while searching You Tube I did find this interesting video. Not sure I would use it alot but it might come in handy someday.

Pretty cool ML. I think it acts the way any good redirect does, at least a weak redirect that's set up where the true support is in the actual TIP. Set up properly, you're not really weighting the weak limb, just your climbing line, which happens to have the weak limb wrapped in it.

It's kind of like a fishing pole, with all the eyes. A heavy fish would snap the tip off, if that's all that was supporting it, but the line running down the pole, through all of the eyes and to the end, gives a much sturdier support system.

So much more makes sense now. Sometimes it's just what the mind relates to. Thx TL.

TL, where did you find the vid, it doesn't work for me. Also is Dan the same Dan with the Cat Rescue web page? I was thinking about adding my name, I don't see anyone in my 30 mile radius.
