Retrievable re-direct

Norm
what is the bury depth on that sling after you do the locked brummel?
It Looks real shallow witch would make the throat allot more malleable.
When I try this re-direct the throat of my locked brummel and two fid bury looks real bulky.

I made my sling out of 3/16" Amsteel and I am pretty sure I did a 2 fid bury and it works great. My sling is 20 ft long and fits in the palm of your hand. The 3/16" is so small and flexible that you dont even notice the added bulk of the bury. I just used this redi the other day, and in the right situation it can be a live saver. Thanks Norm.

The cordage is 5/16's diameter vectran, and it's a 3/4 fid length bury after a locking brummel, then lock stitched with 1.8 Zing-It.
Keep in mind this is a life support sling, so it's not gonna see more than 10% of it's ABS. If it were a rigging sling, I would absolutely bury more, depending on the construction and fiber. I don't even use a locking brummel on any of my rigging slings, anyway. Straight buries only, and done according to manufacturers recommendations.
Like Nick said, 1 fid length is recommended, but knowing the construction and the fiber are key to what one can do in a bury, after a locking brummel.
Example: In Dyneema, I would bury 1 fid length, after a locking brummel, because Dyneema is a slipperier fiber.
When splicing, don't cut corners to make the spliced portion of the rope easier to work with.

Whats the breakin strength of 5/16's vectran and the melting or char point?

I had a chance to try out the R-Re-direck today on a Pecan prune, with Co-Dominant stems today, I think by far one of the best Retrievable Re-Directs I have used.

Thanks Again.

6,200# ABS
625* melting point

There is a way to set it up where you don't have to pull the tail of the rope through the branch union and pull "X" amount of rope through.
Glad you like it!

The stuff in the images is not available anymore. The Co. only did 1 or 2 runs of it. It is 100% vectran coated blue.
The replacement is TVP (TechnoraVectranPolyester). A blend of all 3 fibers in a 12 strand hollow braid. It's available from All Gear Inc. in 5/16's and 3/8's" diameter. I've tried hitch cords from the 5/16's and I'm impressed. I like it.

Do tell?

Well, any other re-directs I've used seem to get hung up nine times out of ten, and this one is the only one I know that you don't have to pull the rope through the main tie in point to retrieve it.
