Residential Service Drops

Re: Res. Svc. Drops:Hunter S. Thompson

TTT,

I agree...if the new employer decides to accept the certification/training. As it stands, EHAP from TCIA is NOT transferable since TCIA is only a record keeper/facilitator.

It boils down to who is the one running the program. EHAP is different than a lot of certs which the participant controls like ISA certs, driver's license, etc. These are transferable with the person.

Re: Res. Svc. Drops:Hunter S. Thompson

Does any orginization (other than TCIA) run the EHAP program?
I looked into becoming EHAP certified and saw it would cost 3 or 4 hundred dollars from TCIA.
I had a jerk from Assplundh tell me he would turn me into Labor & Industries... kinda motivated me to get legal to work near the res. drop.

Re: Res. Svc. Drops:Hunter S. Thompson

The employer runs the EHAP program and decides what to have their employees learn.

In my opinion...FWIW~~~

The advantage of following or using the TCIA version is that in the case of an injury or legal challenge an employer would be in a much more defensible position than developing one on their own.

When I started climbing the 'EHAP certification' that Marv gave me consisted of this advice:

'If you ever hook up with electricity, try buckling your knees so that the weight of your falling body breaks the connection'

That is almost a direct quote. While good intentioned, it sure wouldn't be something that would, could, should be used. This advice was given to me 35 years ago...I know that things have gotten better since then.

Re: Res. Svc. Drops:Hunter S. Thompson

Thanks for the info... makes sense from things I have read at L&I and OSHA websites. They require a Qualified Tree Trimmer for work near lines. No specs on what Qualified means.
I called them and was referrerd to EHAP program.
I am the owner/climber of my business. That worked fine untill I became a LLC - which then made me an Employee!
Looks like I should buy the written EHAP material and certify myself. I already made an Aerial Rescue document for myself... turned it into ISA for CTW/CS test!

Re: Res. Svc. Drops:Hunter S. Thompson

Meh.....guess I'm gonna have to get me some EHAP certification to keep on keeping on what I'm doing. I'm working for myself now and so obviously I can't depend on documentation from my old employer, a lot of the bids I'm getting have service drops right up against the trees, and I really don't want to bother with getting the service lines dropped as the local power company is a real pain to work with (unlike others I've dealt with in the past). *sigh* Another day, another dollar spent on certification/pedigrees.
