Reputable used truck dealers?

Any suggestions for reputable dealers of used tree trucks? Some of these guys must be better than others although if Tri-state can stay in business maybe not. Most likely looking for a forestry unit for the coming season. Currently looking into new units but I think that might be out of my budget. I suppose my other option is the auction, and fixing it up myself rather than getting a polished turd. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There was a guy/company posting here months or a year ago that said they went through trucks top to bottom. He sounded like a real possibility but, prices did go up.

Anyone remember anything about him to search out his posts?

Also stay away from Schmidy’s, some have had good luck with some trucks but the other 99% got lemons, one guy near me bought one and always see it on the side of the road broken down, could of had a new truck with the amount of repairs put into it!

I-80 Trucks ? Hard to find good dealers in this industry either try to buy new or pre owned form a person who cared and didn't abuse their stuff.

Thanks DTS but I would be surprised if that was it. I searched the forum for I-80 Trucks and it didn't come up. I also did a google search for it and some negative posts were readily apparent that were so far reaching that it doesn't strike me as within the character of the guy I remember posting a handful of posts here.

His member name is TruckGuy16 you can try that.

I did go back through a bunch of TruckGuy16's posts and was suprised to see he is associated with I-80 equipment. (You were right from the start DTS.) The way he comes across in his posts I don't see that as matching up with some of the google posts I read about them.

I wonder if possibly he has joined them more recently and they have changed away from some bad business practices? One could hope. Anyway it might be worth a little more careful research.

I went down with my buddy to tri state forestry. Joe buys the trucks from auctions that were Bartlett, asphlud, etc. replaces what he has to, and slaps some paint on them n out the door. It's a business, business are supposed to make money. Those corporate company get new and sell before major problems happen. So when you get it and things happen that is truly inevitable. If you buy used, inspect the equipment, bring a mechanic, other wise gaurenteed it will break. Otherwise buy new and worry about gettin work not working on truck

ITEC fixed everything on my punch list and put a bigger spring pack on the front end due to advertising confusion. Great experience. I've found that I had to replace 2 fuel lines and 4 air ride bags during the build of the crane. They found these issues taking stuff apart at the shop. The way I look at it is, I'm not mad at ITEC. They did everything I asked. It is a used truck. It'll happen.

Bump. Searching around and lots of negative experiences. Re-read the tri-state thread, wow! Looking for under cdl 4x4 chip truck to finance. Who has had luck with used through a dealer? Read good stuff on Joes in FL, mixed on Trueco, and mixed reviews on BTS.

Unfortunately there isn’t to many reputable dealers out there. I either buy a used unit from someone who took care of it or buy new. I’ve heard to many horror stories and seen to many pos trucks and equipment bought from dealers.
