That's a pain sometimes. Cutting up wood and piling it up somewhere can take more time and energy than just loading it long. The only time it works out nice is when the log truck is getting full and you don't have time to dump and come back. Then it's a good deal.

The trees for that 25k job is on page 10/climberstalk/crane day. Check it out Gypo. The crane alone, with a discount, was just over 6k. Most info is in the pics text.
You guys think it's too much. But when the homeowner tells you that that was a good price because she was expecting to pay 30k and over it makes you wonder why you UNDER bid. Plus, these trees were looked at for years by most tree guys in the area. It was time to pay. Location is a factor.

Well, it's all about the man hrs. aint it? 6k for the crane sounds high to me. What size was it? Was there overtime?

Who bid the job, you Rob? Who was in charge of the whole deal? When it gets down to it, every little factor adds up. Wood, chipping fees, road closing (that's a tough one).... Someone has to pay for everything.

That's a fact. This guy just had the manpower available, and they made it disappear. I hate cutting to firewood lengths! /forum/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Many times a customer asks me to cut up the firewood after the job was sold and 90% of the time, I tell 'em to call their landscaper Vinnie Boombats to deliver firewood, seasoned and stacked. When I tell them the work that goes into splitting themselves, they realize they have better things to do. A chord delivered and stacked is $135 here. Doesn't pay to do it yourself.

As Mark stated, its more cost efficient to load it up long and haul it rather than pay the crew to cut it up. /forum/images/graemlins/applaudit.gif

The bid was not mine. It was a guy I've been subbing for for 8yrs or so. Teti and I were both asked to look at it just to get more brains at work.
The crane was 250t and overtime was in there. The price for the crane was more than 6k, which was originally alotted, then plus the overtime. He still got a break on the bill. Road closing cost I do not know. It should have been real minimal because not a high traffic or bus route or anything like that. Overtime for the groundies. Teti got a nice check. I became the most expensive one-armed groundman. Stumps ground out too. The owner of Apple Tree added a nice lump sum on top of all that. Everyone leaves happy. Teti might have been alittle tired, but any man would suck it up and do the same thing tomorrow /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Best part of job is that not a damn thing went wrong. Had the neighbors out eating cheese and drinking wine enjoying the show.

There once was a tree from Nantucket
Way too tall to reach from a bucket
I roped out the bad ones
And free falled the crap ones
When it got to a snag then I chunked it
