Re: Redwood climb of theXman, MattyD and BiXman.

What a neat looking tree. The trees look greener on the other side of the fence. "Some day" I keep telling myself. Looking forward to the rest of the climb.

Re: Redwood climb of theXman, MattyD and BiXman.

Pretty cool looking stem structure.

Were the stems slick from like algae up there, any more so than just being wet this time of year?

Seems that a wet season climb may be nicer than a dusty dry season climb, but either way, the redwoods are awesome 12 months per year.

Very cool stem structure... the tree's lucky I didn't have my 090.

It was pretty slick mdvaden, little algae, moist air, and a recent rain... nice cool fresh air though.

They sure are awesome trees... the dust from a redwood can do a number on the lungs, so I'm told.

Thanks TH, I'm wondering the same thing.

Re: Redwood climb of theXman, MattyD and BiXman.

Bix you are the lucky one!

090,Bix,this is classless!

At least use a MS200t......but really, any talk of hurting these beasts should be done with jest, cause they are such awesome creatures and should be protected.

Even that accent point that was shown in the clip,...I'd be lying to say that it didnt cause some bad affect to the tree.

Cant you just look at the tree and feel what an awesome tree it is?

Especially from an arborist, whoose beliefs entice them to use cambium savers on much lesser of trees.

I shake my head,... you just blast a rope into a 1000 year old tree, cause you can, without thinking of the trees cambium, and then accent, and than you want to be respected by a tree loving comunity, plus then you mention it would be easier to climb by trimming some branches with a shite saw!?!?WTF

I love and hate this industry cause it sems to attract mindless deuch bags who do this job cause they think they are the most tough and hardest going around! I can not stand to listen to big noting tree people and this vid screams of tough big noting tree loosers!

Re: Redwood climb of theXman, MattyD and BiXman.

Bix joked while in the tree and said, "wow, I'd like to cut this down" or something like that.

He did it to shock me I'm sure. I said it was sacrilegious to even joke about such a thing and I then said to him that I was pretty sure he was now going to fall and die in that tree.

I know he was joking and I had a little fun back by maybe giving him some fear.

The main ascent (100 feet or so) was done SRT, so no rope was being worked over the limb.

The other tiny 15 foot ascents were not done with a friction saver.

I thought about it ahead of time. The bark on the bigger limbs was thick and many times we were on large thick dead limbs.

Big and huge limbs die, crack and fall off those trees over the years, they must strike the other limbs on the way down I would think.

I saw NO evidence of rope burns or grooves in this tree anywhere and I know for a fact that MANY people climb this tree.

I climbed it in 2003 and now again.

My brother was there about a month and a half ago and camped in the woods near it. While he was there, three foreign climbers (he thought German or something similar)climbed the tree and slept in portaledges in that tree.

I found absolutely no evidence that anyone had been in that tree.

However, I would not want hundreds and hundreds of people going and climbing this tree; that's why we don't give away the location publicly.

Re: Redwood climb of theXman, MattyD and BiXman.

Some day I'll climb one too, even if I have to hurt a little cambium in the process (not suggesting you guys did). I'm sure the tree will recover. Looking forward to seeing the whole video.
