Reconciling Science and Christianity?

jomoco, I did not label you racist and misogynistic. I'm only equating bigotry against homosexuals with racism and sexism. Perhaps my previous comment could have been written more clearly.

I take you at your word when you say you support homosexuals having the same rights as heterosexuals. I'm glad to see you clarify this point.

However,

[ QUOTE ]
Do you think gay people want to be gay? Discriminated against? If they could take a magic pill that makes them normal, do you think they'd refuse it?

[/ QUOTE ]

you then proceed to characterize homosexuals as something other than normal. This is a repugnant statement.

[ QUOTE ]
If gay people could take a magic pill that would make them normal like the rest of us, do you think they'd refuse it?

[/ QUOTE ]

You should ask some gay people. Maybe they would prefer that bigots take a pill to cure them of their bigotry.

This is what keeps me out of church and away from religion. I have tried it and quickly realized that Christians can be the most judgemental loony bins I have ever met. I don't give a what color, sexual preference or what someone believes in, if they are a good person they are a good person. If this world was a better place it may be a little easier for me to believe that there is a higher power. Until then, George Carlin pretty much says it best in one of his acts. I will now pray to Joe Pesci before I go to sleep.

Is it over yet....?

Ah no....I see we entered into the age old conumdrum is it to be the red pill or the blue pill....so hard to choooose...

Red....or blue.....

Oh no...come to think of it now I notice my drink has a pink tinge to it.....damn you black thorn berry you have made the choice for me.

It has to be does it not......?

MORE ICE!

I have no love of pushy forward people in general Glenn, gay or not.

I was hoping for a civilized debate on Christian theology and philosophy in general, and my humble attempt to reconcile it to the world of science if possible?

Please read the New Testament's Revelations 22 while bearing my project in mind. There are interesting aspects of reproductive medical science that shed new light on its intimations.

Let me get off this newfangled IPad and onto my old computer so I can copy and paste the pertinent points of it I'm speaking of into the body of my posts here. It'll take me a little while, please read it while I'm heading home guys.

Jomoco

Whew...this is the first time I checked this thread and I only read the last dozen posts. I guess things seem civil, I applaud everyone for being polite.

Whenever I hear someone speak of a 'normal' person I remember what Martin Mull wrote:

NORMAL
Martin Mull

Why'd we have to get so hip?
Why'd we have to take that trip? Honey…
You look dumb in dungarees and so do I.
Go put on your nicest dress and I'll put on my tie,
Here's why…

I'm tired of rock n' rollin'
Let's get married honey, let's go bowlin'
Throw away our pot and acid
Spend a weekend at Lake Placid
Too hard to live in this town if you're strange
What say you and I get normal for a change

Chorus:
What say you and I get normal
It don't have to be that formal
We'll just sit and watch TV like others do
We'll eat meat and mashed potatoes
Cut our hair so folks don't hate us
Life is nuts enough just livin' here with you

Let's see who can be most borin'
You do the dishes honey, I'll start snorin'
We'll get a mower, do some mowin'
Spend all mornin' gettin' it goin'
We'll show everyone in town we're not deranged
What say you and I get normal for a change

[ QUOTE ]
I've been propositioned by lots of pushy disgusting gay men in my life Northwind, and it's neither pleasant or normal in my opinion.

Jomoco

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, same here. Propositioned, I mean. Never found it that earth-shattering.

I have gay friends, I have lesbian friends, whoop-de-doo.

Cant think of one interested in your pill.

Northwind

Okay, here we go.

[ QUOTE ]

Revelation 22
1And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

3And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

4And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.

[end quote]

Note the "clear as chrystal" wording. Once sperm has been capacitated and incubated for an hour, it completely loses its thick milky viscous nature and takes on a very clear almost water like transparency and can be poured into a beaker just like water can. This is a scientific fact.

Note the 2nd paragraph speaking of the tree of life yielding its "fruit" every month. A clear allusion to a woman's monthly menses.

Note the 3rd paragraph speaking of the throne of God and the lamb as two separate sources for the tree of life.

Then note the 4th paragraphs wording saying "in" their foreheads, rather than on their foreheads.

And finally I'd like to draw your attention to Jesus's parable of the mustard seed found in the New Testament as well.

13:18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

13:19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

13:20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

13:21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

[end quote]

Now, human nature being what it is, I'd like you to humour me long enough to consider what would happen if this research succeeds and becomes a tangible fountain of youth, free for the taking?

How many people around the world would say no thanks, I want to grow old and die? No thanks, I like my arthritis, my lung cancer, ALS, Parkinsons, Huntingtons diseases?

No thanks, I don't want no stinking cures based on Christian books of the bible, I'd rather die first?

How many folks around the world do you think would say no thanks, even if it worked tangibly and demonstrably before their very eyes?

jomoco

If the cure goes through rigorous peer reviewed scientific testing and is found to be effective, it's inspiration becomes a footnote.

If the cure requires belief to be effective, well, then you're just another Jehovah's witness, endlessly seeking converts with a promise to heal them all.

In fact...are you a JW jomoco? Lifes waters free for all is a big part of their schtick. Not to mention Outer Limits interpretation of Revelations, a book any ninth grader could interpret as Ewoks vs. Metallica for the Superbowl.

[ QUOTE ]
As I watched the news with him that day, it depicted a South Vietnamese officer putting a gun to the head of a North Vietnamese prisoner and blowing his brains out . . .

[/ QUOTE ]

You're not confusing that for the famous Eddie Adams photo (also filmed by NBC News) of the execution during Tet in '68? One of the most iconic images of the war:

eddie-adams-war-photo-1.jpg

All I remember is watching tape of the execution on the evening news that hot summer day in 1971 Archdruid. It was not a photograph.

Jomoco

No Northwind, I am not a Jehovahs Witness.

I'm just a basic humble Christian seeking God's wisdom as I'm able to.

Jomoco

Yes, it also ran as video footage on the news, but the timing would have been early February (1968) with all the other horrors of Tet coming in and Walter Cronkite pulling his own hair out on CBS Evening News.

This was all before my time, of course; but I do like history.

Well considering that the Camaro my brother burned rubber in down to the recruiting office was a 69 Rally Sport model, the dates don't seem to match AD.

Jomoco

Whoops! Nevermind the historical nitpick. I didn't read the entire post, or much of the following thread, for that matter.

You have taken the old-timey notion of "sex on the brain" to a new and creepy place. It might be a case where the the cure is worse than the disease?

And perhaps we are jumping a bit too quickly here on the title, eh? We might need a little more study before we nail down the whole "reconciliation" thing?

Welllllll..I just got done reading from the beginning.

I'm not inclined to go on and on...simply put, TreeBuzz, even in the TRee Free Zone, isn't the place to host this discussion.

The thread is locked. If there's anything that anyone wants out of here, get it while you can. The thread will be gone soon.

And...it isn't the science part that doesn't belong...its the way that the 'rest of the story' is being told.
