Reading suggestions for a beginner?

Sorry if this is addressed elsewhere and I missed it.

I've done free climbing as a kid (unsafely, even by the standards of free climbing.) On the safe side I've done radio tower work, repelling down the side of 100' fuel storage tanks to take ultrasound readings, sky diving and roped in wall climbing.

Apart for some on-the-ground felling in western Montana I've never done tree work.

Right now I'm reading The Tree Climbers Guide (3rd edition) and watching a bunch of youtube videos (as an aside, I don't know much of anything about tree climbing and just with my background in working at altitudes I'm a bit surprised some of those guys haven't gotten hurt, though I do notice that a lot of their channels abruptly stop, hopefully they just got another hobby.)

I want to be safe. Anyone have other reading or video suggestions they'd be kind enough to share?

All good recommendations from Aerial Traveler.

If your purpose of learning is for work, I’d strongly strongly recommend getting hired on with a reputable local tree service. Start on the ground and become intimately familiar with chainsaws and ground rigging operations first, and hopefully pick up a mentor from there.

! A great observation. That’s true for some. The Educuated Climber puts out some fantastic videos with comprehensive information.

@Jonny is spot on. It’s really an apprenticeship industry. And especially in this job market, you should be able to find a legit company in your area that has a good training program. One that doesn’t put you up in a harness day 1. One that actually trains you and waits to verify knowledge and skills along the way before putting your life on the line.
