Question For Tony Tressel !!!

Re: SRT, simple video

I like the idea of clipping the carabiner there.

I realized you could totally use a sturdy keychain carabiner instead of a big one.
It is a lock very similar to the pin on a trailer hitch. It would never be load bearing but it would effectively lock the knot.

If you wanted to be extra secure you could put two keychain carabiners opposed to each other.

Re: SRT, simple video

It is all clear now. Thanks for the video Derrick. I have always seen it done with a bowline on a bite and pulling your tail through with your throwline or a butterfly pulled through the same way. Gonna give your way a shot.

Re: SRT, simple video

Alright, some people have asked how to advance your TIP easily. This is the method i use to tie in SRT. I think there are many positives to it which i can go into more if there is interest.

For now i'll just show the video and see what you think. I use this method on basically any tree that i'm going to use a throw ball to set a rope for, 40' +.

SRT Tie in method.

Hope its as clear as the other one. If any questions or anything is not clear please let me know as i would never want someone to try something that they don't understand fully and possibly get hurt.

Re: SRT, simple video

good idea I hate having to pull all that rope thru when I advance my tip.Seems like it would be easier to just climb ddbl rope if you have a long way to go back down to attach the lines.maybe do the top or whatever is nearby ddbl rope and then srt the areas where its efficient to do so.I really believe in never wasting a movement in a tree(havent mastered that concept yet but trying)but climbing back down seems like a wasted movement unless its after all the work is done above.

Re: SRT, simple video

You could even install a friction saver at the top and finish all the areas you would need that system and come down install a retrieval ball midline with a little prussik loop pop the friction saver down and then continue with your plan.It would be the best of both worlds just would have to be the right scenerio i mean tree.

Re: SRT video

If i'm to far from my TIP i've used several different techniques to advance my line. I agree in not wanting to waste energy. Honestly its been a while since i haven't been able to hit in the general area of my TIP so this is the technique i use the most.
I didn't want to post to many different ideas or techniques as it might confuse someone. In person i have no problem sharing all of them, but then i can fully explain the pro's con's and concerns. Here i wanna keep it focused on one way of doing it so as to make sure its all clear and thorough. Since this is the technique i use most often, it makes sense to me to share it and go into more detail with this one.

it cant be tied midline around your line. with a butterfly you have to thread the tail with the end of the rope. basically a midline bowline you grab a bight of rope and tie a running bowline with the bite. not to be confused with a bowline on a bite, which is another thing completely

I call it a bowline WITH a bite.

Re: SRT, simple video

Very cool stuff thanks a lot now if you have a spliced end for your climbing line cant you just use a biner and clove hitch it on to the static line?
