purchasing air compressor

I'm in the market for a used air compressor...mainly for air spading and blowing out irrigation lines.

I've heard that good prices can be found thru rental companies.

Does anyone have any experience/advice for buying a used air compressor?

Thanks in advance!

The company that I used to work for bought a 375 cfm Sul-Air air compressor from Sunbelt. As you as you keep up with maintenance you shouldn't have any problems. We would take it back to Sunbelt for regular maintenance and parts.

I have gotten quotes on equipment from rental co's and their prices seemed steep for what they were selling. I guess that the constant maintenance is a good thing, but the fact that every jackleg and his bro had used the equipment before made me question the price.

My experience has been that Rental companies have an inflated view of the value of their used equipment. I've looked at 5 year old, fully depreciated, equipment and they were looking to get 75% current retail for it.

Seems they are worse than the kid who buys a '75 AMC Pacer puts a $1000 stereo in it and thinks it's worth $6k.
