Pruner Pole Storage

I'm looking to store 3-4 6' poles in L-boxes on our chip truck. I was hoping to find a set of brackets to hold individual poles on a vertical side of the top shelf of the box. The goal is keep the poles off the shelf to create more storage and contain the poles from rolling around or storing them in a bag.

Any ideas or suggestion would be awesome.

Thank you!

I use PVC pipe... 4" or 6"... cap on one end (glue on) and on the other end the flange and screw in cap.

To screw or bolt it to trailer/truck/whatever I first drill the holes for the bolts/screws (usually 1/4") then directly opposite each of those I drill a 1" hole with a holesaw. This lets me use a socket wrench to tighten the bolts down. I plug the 1" holes afterwards to keep rain/wasps out of there. Easiest way to do that is to cut 2" off the end of the PVC pipe, then cut that into 2" wide pieces. You end up with 2" X 2" pieces that are curved like the pipe. Use PVC cement to glue them over the 1" holes. Three holes are plenty for 6' to 8' length, using 1/4" bolts.

You end up with a watertight storage tube that the poles can't get out of, lasts practically forever, and they won't get damaged or be subjected to the elements. Also, very cheap to make. They are easily painted with spray paint.

What jeffgu said! There's usually just enough room on most trucks to mount it to the front of the headache rack, right behind the cab. Instead of drilling the big hole with the holesaw I use carriage bolts tho. The square of the carriage bolt in the pvc will provide enough friction to snug up the nut.

Thanks for the rubber tool clamp link.

I went for 4" schedule 40 pvc drainage with threaded cap both ends - figured that's just as easy and it avoids the situation of something getting a tuck in there. It's a bit lighter than pvc plumbing.

Mounted on the side of the bed with two short pieces of 4" aluminum angle bolted to the bed, then hose clamp the pvc to the angle through a slot I machined. This spaced the pipe off the truck about a couple inches so the ends are clear of hardware on the bed and the threaded flange.

Only thing is while I was working on it someone pointed out if the pipe is any longer than the poles I put in it, they will slide when I start /stop and just the end of the pipe. I have different length poles, so just wondering if anyone has any experience with that issue? I'm going to glue some foam to the insides of the caps to try and absorb the shock.
