This firm also teaches that it is ok to use the tail of your climbing line to lower pieces.

That has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of in arboriculture.
This company or person needs to be struck off. Fired. Shown the door.
It is outrageous that in this day and age, people actually have the audacity to set themselves up as training providers for the arb industry only to make a fool of the whole system.

LOWERING OFF THE TAIL END OF YOUR CLIMBING LINE IS WRONG, STUPID, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNSAFE AND DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS.

YOUR CLIMBING LINE IS YOUR LIFELINE - IT SUPPORTS YOUR BODY WHICH SUPPORTS YOUR LIFE.

Wow ! thats something new to me. I didnt know that. I use the tail end of my rope to lower all my wood . Saves on buying bull lines....

Its a handy trick to get you out of a tight spot, but not to be taught to newbies.

Its one of those "tricks of the trade things" never did me any harm but you didn't see that ok!

Funny subject here. I just might be missing something here being I never went to college or anything. But I though that climbing lines were for climbing, rigging lines are for rigging and your lanyard is for work position. But what do I know I'm just a kid.

But as far as chunking goes I usually will cut from my front left towards my back right. Leave about a few inches so the saw doesn't pinch then come around and finish the snap cut.

Oh gosh, that's where I went wrong. I thought those little soft plastic things went in your nose to keep the dust out. Thanks for clearing that up.

I once saw a guy using the end of his climbing line for lowering, the groundies thought that he had thrown it down - pick up the branch and threw it into the chipper climbing rope attached......pulled the guy right outta the tree....luckily he was only 6 feet up the tree at the time!

He was fine.....just a little stunned.

He never used his climbing line for lowering ever again after that.

I bet he was stunned. Bet the groundies were stunned as well. Had a similar incident happen to a x co worker (Mr safety we called him)cause he was always preaching about safey. Drug his climbline right in the chipper and made it about twenty feet shorter .. same guy didnt pass the saftey part of the tree workers either ...I had to chuckle about that.
