Prairie Creek Again

Terri and I spent another weekend hiking the many trails of Prairie Creek. Hiking until our feet hurt. Easy to do for us old timers.

There's just never no end to all the beautiful trees you find along the way while hiking on the trails. I took several hundred pictures. These are just a few. Not giants, but pretty trees and scenes.

Enjoy.

Thanks, Jesse. I've been through these parks so many times and still there's more to see that I haven't seen before.

Terri does pretty well on the hikes, but both our feet start failing us after about 6 hours. We're limping by the we get back to the truck. Advil takes the pain away.

Greg sent me a CD of the CAA dinner. I haven't looked at it yet, but guess it was a winner. Maybe next year. Great outfit the CAA.

So what trail did you pick this time?

Oh - and is it still too early for Iris?

I just noticed the Trillium chloropetalum starting to bloom in Prairie Creek last visit there a few weeks ago. Not many, but a couple. Down the trail from Big Tree a short ways were a couple. And headed toward the beginning of Miners Ridge trail near one of the first bridges, I saw some last year.

Seems to me to be one of the most groovy looking wildflowers in those parts. Redwood Creek trail has several. Maybe around April. And then Bald Hills Road has a third species of trillium up there. Another white one besides the ovatum one.

We did the short loop from big tree to the Cal-Barrel road. Caught up on the short section between the hq office and the zig zag. I think it's called the mill crk trail. All lower section mostly this time. I did catch the decommissioned section of trail below the west ridge trail. Surprised me they even took out the bridges. Hit a bog and nearly lost one shoe in it. Started out the skunk cabbbage trail but turned around because it appears to be all regen. With all the doubling back I figured we put on about 6 miles.

Wow, those are some awesome pics Jer! Looks like you and Terri had some nice weather for the hike too.

I know what you mean about sore feet by the end of the hike too. Where I hike here in the White Mountains of NH, the trails are very steep and rocky and the feet take a pounding.

I find that these inserts in my hiking boots have helped a lot.

Hey thanks for the link, Chris. I'll look into it for sure. Anything to get an extra mile or two in everyday would be great.

In about 2/3 of my shoes, plus hiking boots, I added various gel sole inserts. It has made walking and hiking quite a bit more comfortable, since few shoe makers have much pad at all in their products.

Most of mine were from a local pharmacy or shoe department. Try one out and see how you like it.
