Popular Descending Gear???

I would only use it for overhead belay or two man rescue belay its got to much friction to use for rappelling.I only posted it because Tom mentioned it and could not find it at the time.

Oh, and why is it called "canadian?"

Because it looks funky and is bigger than it needs to be, but actually works better than the original?

I use it for rappelling all the time. Give it a try. I don't claim to be the first person to ever tie this knot but I came up with it a few years back for just this purpose (rappelling with extra friction and no twist) I started to call it the "canadian italian hitch" as a joke.

I tried out this here canadian munter. There was a lot of friction. Granted, I was using this while double-crotching. But I did have to literally feed the slack into the knot to allow me to descend.

BUT it did not twist the rope even a tiny bit. I was pretty psyched about that.

Another neat thing about this knot is that like the munter it is reversable. try it, its fun to watch, but use a large biner! I agree that this is not a knot for double crotching if you want to go fast. try it on srt.
