Pole Saw Use

I take pole saw up in the tree quite often but 90% of it's use is for rope placement and 10% is for pruning. I use a Jameison telescoping pole saw and usually hang it in the middle of the tree.

Re: cottonwood hell

arborcare- I used to live in Hampton, VA but am currently residing in Denver, CO. I guess I just traded Tulip poplar s for Cottonwoods. Tulip Poplars don't have that distinctive scent though, cacawood is a pretty apt description.

W/ much love for the VA and CO,

Steve

Oh yeah I use a polesaw from time to time, mmmhmmmmm french fried potaters!

Re: cottonwood hell

You know you want some more of those 100ft km poplars estebandito. tulip poplars do stink when your chipping it. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

ahhh the elusive estebandito-san. leaves town and sticks me with all the spray work. thanks for that, i didnt need that excess water in my body anyway.

Chad now that your an ""enthusiasist doesn't mean you have to take that "losing excess losing body water tone" with me, mister! /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif

Give those ambrosia beetles hell and while your at it coat yourself in onyx while eating a hostess danish...do it for me and more importantly do it for the Meilmeister wherever he might be!

Re: Pole Saw abuse

OUCH

A new silky HAYATE polesaw just out in use for two days got banged up. A hired worker was pruning watersprouts on poplars and got some nice pulls over iron 15feet up a tree.

3 quesses what he hit up there

1 - nail
2 - wire
3 - polesawblade

right a polesaw blade....... /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It got stuck there 2 years back when the tip of a hayauchi silky polesaw broke off. I knew it was there and forgot to tell him..... When he very disturbed told me he wacked the new blade of the HAYATE polesaw i knew right away what he hit up there..... i praised him for telling me that he damaged the saw and not put it back in my van without telling as some crew will do.

Re: Pole Saw abuse

isnt that the truth... nothing worse than pulling out a dull tool or wet rope!

Re: Pole Saw abuse

Yeah, mushy land mines are worse too. /forum/images/graemlins/pokinit.gif Especially when you don't know you've stepped on one, and you've footlocked into the next tree. I hate when I do that. /forum/images/graemlins/w_b.gif

Quick comment to make this post topic related....new guys, be afraid of your pole saws! Hang them below and away from you. And after you hang it don't climb under it.!

Re: Pole Saw abuse

For me the pole saw is an essential part of my tool kit. Like any other tool, it's misuse can cause bad cuts. Part of the key, I've found is to keep a nice sharp blade. Hard to do- at 20 bucks a pop they are quite flimsy- as well as here in the land of the slimy Siberian Elm they goop up quickly. Add to that inexperienced groundies that tweak the blades. I pretty much have mine in the "do not touch" collection of tools seperate from the old tweaky bladed ones that groundie can use to pul hangers and such.
Another use I did not see mentioned: I'll use mine to make critical cuts on tension loaded pieces(storm damage for instance) that I don't want to be near.
And in closing- basswood, 14' is the only way to go unless near conductors. Polesaws don't make bad cuts-people do.
