Sherrill says that you can splice PI on both ends. Can you really put a tight eye, hand spliced eye on both ends? Have any of you climbed on PI with eyes on both ends? If so, have you noticed any problems because of the 2 eyes?

only splice one end. PI milks alot for a while. After you get it good and broke in then you can splice the other end.

Have you guys bought PI lately? I bought my first hank 5 or 6 years ago and it milked like crazy, but Sherrills fall catalog says that they "tweeked" it and now it doesnt milk so much.

Thats what they say about tachyon but it still milks enough so that it's best to break it in before splicing both ends.

Sounds good. I actually have never spliced PI new, so at least I know I can splice it used.

I believe that about the new PI. The last one I bought milked 2" or 3". Still, you want to milk it out before splicing.

One of the guys on our crew just go a PI spliced both ends. It milks terrible. I would definatly break it in first. I finally fixed my milking lava last week... Cut the splice off one end to allow it to milk off. "It doesnt milk"... huh

That sucks. I think you have to expect all double braids to milk some unless they do it somehow at the factory. I've not used a rope with both ends spliced but I always use the rope a while before whipping down the unspliced end.
