Poison ivy remedy

+1 on the Fels-Naptha. I'm highly allergic to PI...got it often enough to learn what works and what doesn't. Most creams and ointments didn't do much for me. I've tried Technu, Ivy Klean, all sorts of others. The best results I've ever had, by far, were with Fels-Naptha. I would wash 4 times daily with it...if you can. If it's in areas that you need a shower for then wash twice. Either way, it dries everything out and lessens the rash. Mine would usually last about a week and a half, but with Fels-Naptha it might hang around for 4 or 5 days. Anyways, that's my 2 cents worth

Teach him a lesson......file a WC claim. He could have gotten out cheaper and paid cash for the doctors visit and script, now he can deal with WC.

If you want to punish the boss, file a worker's comp claim. May have further ramifications, but may be worth it ... depends on the boss' reaction.

I think that your boss may want to review his responsibilities.

ANSI Z133.1 -2006

3.3.3 Instruction shall be provided in the identification, preventive measures, and first-aid treatment of common poisonous plants (poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac),
stinging and biting insects, and other pests indigenous to the area in which work is to be performed.

Poison ivy, and similar plants, are a recognized hazard in the workplace by OSHA and ANSI.

It just says that instruction must be provided. Although generally, OSHA requires employers need to provide a safe workplace, I'm not sure how it applies to this situation. If you want to push the issue, I'd contact Fed OSHA or state OSHA (if applicable). But beware, they'll probably drop in again in the future.

Try to find Ivy Stat. Best stuff I've ever used. Its made by the same people who make Tecnu. The plant that BostonBull mentioned is called Jewel weed I've also heard it called Impatience. It has small orange flowers and a single translucent stem. When you crush the stem it feels a little oily and smells a little like soap. It's usually about two to three feet full grown.

I've been taking 4 drops every night for over a decade now. I love it, for me it really works.

MB, if you didnt take the oral ivy, how bad would you get the PI??

About average, I guess. I would need to use Caladryl for a week or so and then it would dry up. With Oral Ivy, it might be kinda itchy on my arms until I wash it off and then it seems to just go away.

Note: if you take too much it will make you start to itch kinda like you'd been in PI.

Hands down the best cure for PI is a perscription ointment called Elocon. No matter how bad you have it just put this stuff on after you shower, go to bed and wake up and it is gone for real. Elocon is a topical steroid and is far safer than taking Prednizone. Try to avoid that stuff at all cost besides taking pills for seven days it is terribly bad for you. Also try to avoid Workers Comp claims these hurt the whole industry save them for when you really need it. Your boss should have stepped up to the plate and helped your man out good for you for sticking up for him and doing your best.

Most important fact about Elocon
When you use Elocon, you inevitably absorb some of the medication through your skin and into the bloodstream. Too much absorption can lead to unwanted side effects elsewhere in the body. To keep this problem to a minimum, avoid using large amounts of Elocon over large areas, and do not cover it with airtight dressings such as plastic wrap or adhesive bandages unless specifically told to by your doctor

update: my boss paid half of the employees doctors bill and prescription. He even paid him for the day he missed. This came after we did a "free Tibet" type protest, I wouldn't let those not covered under insurance near poison ivy, I am working on a company policy so incidents like these dont happen again

On a possible bad note, my boss is interviewing another climber tomorrow, he says its to help me out.I think its to keep me in line so I can't complain next time he forgets his ethics. Looks like this will be the last protest

Oral Ivy. I have to agree withe the Blaster. I started taking it this spring. I was skeptical but kept taking it. I usually get Poison Ivy BAD!!!. Not with this stuff. MB, did you read the package that says to take at an increased dose if you have a reaction already? I have had some spots show up, but when I increased the dosage they cleared right up.

FamilyTree, get your guy some of that Oral Ivy. But fast!!

I just have to ask, isn't there another tree company for you to go work for?

I would rather be unemployed than work for someone like that.

Want to move to Minnesota?
