two day event this weekend at the washington park arboretum in seattle, put together by a small handful of dedicated volunteers. weather was exceptional, trees were great and though the crowd watching was small it seemed the competitors all had fun. generous prize pkgs as usual - thanks to the sponsors!
master's challenge was in a quercus michauxii (new one to me..) - very cool somewhat spready tree with bark that looked like it would eat throwline but didn't, both men and women with the same stations but different time limits. several different strategies from different climbers, more than one competitor showing lionhearted tendencies in difficult moments...all in all your average tree climbing competition. good job everybody, and i gotta say it was pretty cool to watch and cheer for once - been about ten years.
final results:
men's masters:
1) colin bugg
2) robert bundy
3) ryan murphy
women's masters:
1) emily garlough
2) susan wright
3) katy bigelow

anybody got a spreadsheet with prelim results? more pics?
