Job Description Details:
I - Personal Qualifications:
1. A good personal attitude, be honest, courteous, considerate and cooperative, including the ability to be fair in his/her dealings with others. Good communication skills, enthusiasm, and an open mind are critical.
2. A good personal appearance, neat, clean and orderly. Maintain a professional image for team members and clients at all times. Must be able to maintain a professional level of communication with customers.
3. The ability to display quality leadership to other team members by instructing them in the execution of work. Candidate must be able to have team members do their share of the work load and not make up for their deficiencies. Must make sure that crews are well prepared and at job sites on time. See to the proper scheduling of all team members daily. In addition, must be accessible to all team members and possess good problem solving skills.
4. The ability to recognize talent in other team members and encourage and train those team members as prospective assistants.
5. A good ability to make on the spot decisions quickly and not reduce the quality or accuracy of the estimate, design or operations. Also, the ability to call for assistance immediately when changes may affect the accuracy of the estimate, design or operations that are unknown to him/her.
6. A good performance as to the thoroughness with which he/she completes estimates whether large or small. Attention to final details in completion of estimates and projects in the field, including legibility of their work so that others can follow the estimate to a final conclusion in the absence of the estimator.
7. A strong ability to complete paperwork on a daily basis and know and have the ability to perform estimating, cost accounting, scheduling, plus be a problem solver.
8. Must be able to work well under stress and time deadlines.
II - Technical Qualifications:
1. The ability to work and train within the Plant Health Care Service Division of the Company.
2. To maintain and to build upon communications with customers and fellow workers (i.e., estimating, problem solving, sales, scheduling and educating).
3. To correctly scout, monitor and identify all landscape and lawn plants and to correctly identify and correct any/all problems with same.
4. To learn how to perform soil & plant tissue tests when needed, to analyze test results, and to amend plantings properly with fertilizers, biological inoculants, soil amendments and/or pest controls per test results.
5. To maintain sufficient inventory for all plant health care projects throughout the year; without fail.
6. To learn & implement what pesticide products best control specific pest problems.
7. To have the desire and the knowledge to reduce and or eliminate the use of synthetic pesticides whenever and wherever possible. To have the desire and knowledge to implement the use of no or low toxicity cultural, biological and or organic controls whenever and wherever possible. But, without a doubt, to also know when the synthetic solutions are the best option for the clients and their landscape investments.
8. To maintain the proper PA pesticide certifications valid at all times. Pesticide certifications for the CORE EXAM and the Category 06 & 07 Exams (Ornamentals and Turf) are required. These certifications must be retained indefinitely in order to hold this position. Also, to obtain & maintain ISA certification at all times as needed.
9. To work with Company personnel as needed in order to continually further the computerization of the Plant Health Care Service Division.
10. To understand the unique qualities and characteristics of soil (composition, structure, etc.) and how same can influence plant growth and plant health.
11. To assist the Company in leading the competition with new, innovative and holistic plant care practices.
12. To be able to estimate and to sell all aspects of the Plant Health Care Service Division.
13. To be able to assist applicators on job sites with the technical aspect of an application, if needed.
14. To be able to collect, package, and mail/ship plant and soil samples as needed to laboratories.
15. The ability to know how to install trees/shrubs and lawns properly.
16. To handle all sales inquiries, schedule sales appointments, be on time for sales appointments, execute requested bids in a timely fashion, and last but not least, follow up on and close on all bids delivered.
17. Along with residential service programs, continual effort should be made toward the ongoing improvement of programs and products for athletic facilities, educational institutions, commercial properties and governmental bodies.
18. Have all annual contract renewals mailed by February 15 each year.
19. Update frequency rates annually or more often, if needed.
20. Update MSDS sheets as needed for all products requiring same.
21. Provide safety equipment as needed for all applicators.
III - Pesticide Safety & Management:
1. To implement & maintain a pesticide container recycling program as needed.
2. To implement & maintain a program for the safe use and transportation of pesticides.
3. To implement & maintain a method to notify persons on the pesticide hypersensitivity list in all areas of operation of the company.
