Petzl pantin

It has some sentimental value with this baby, it broke truthfully. Got it in a case, a little trophy for me. I thought about a spur acender, but rather have one that doesn't kick out if I got spikes on.

Fellas....Ive got experience tree climbing, but from the old school. I"ve got new school tools but want to make sure i'm safe. Right now i'm using DRrt (I think). Throw bag over a limb then installing a two ringed rope saver grom the ground along with my climbing line. I've got a two handed ascender made by petzl that i'm using to ascend the tree, but how do I back that up? In the instruction manual it suggests anchoring both ends of my rope to the base of the tree. I got that part, but should I be using something additional that attaches to my climbing line to "catch" me if this go south?

I found the ASAP by petzl $230, the Singing Rock $90(an Italian company), the Easy Move by Climbing Technologies, and finally the Kong Fall Arrest $149.00.

Question: Am I thinking about this the right way? Do I anchor to the base and buy a fall arrest device?

Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Cheers!
Copy what you posted here and start a new thread. You're bound to get help. This thread is about something else, so you won't do very well asking here.

By the way, I don't see why you would want to anchor your climbing line to the base of the tree. You need to be able to pull it over branches to position yourself in other parts of the tree.

Also, you don't mention a prussik. I assume you attach yourself to the lifeline with one (and a cinching knot such as the anchor bend with the other end - I know some 'old-timers don't!)? Most devices you buy for DdRT are just mechanical prussiks. They are helpful but do not change the system. Your back-up should be on a different system, so another mechanical device on your life-line isn't sufficient. For nearly everyone, that's your lanyard/flip-line.

Within DdRT, I suggest the next thing you can put into practice is redirecting your line. If you are anchoring your line to the tree you must be missing some things there.

SRT is a whole other story, as is DRT.

Really, you could do with reading pages of threads in this forum (the climbing one) to give you some catch-up background, to start. If you do you will learn fast.
