Petzl pantin

I think it could be 2 things to why it broke, over tightening of the strap or poor position on the boot.

I have seen a lot of pantins with webbing threaded wrong, they become slack very quickly and drop down on your boot.

Worth checking them. And make some changes.

Me too. They replaced it. It seems like they thickened the plate.

I tend to think there are just bad apples in every batch you know. Unless it is happening with a more substantial number of them. Like some tools mentioned in other threads.
Yeah, Treestuff replaced mine too. The body was fine and has morphed into a spurscender.

In the last year I've broken one Petzl Pantin exactly the same way as yours and one CT as well. It's ridiculous of Petzl to save those extra 10 grams of weight and have a product that breaks... In CT's case I think the backplate was too hardened or too small dimension.

Now I'm using Camp turbofoot and I'm quite happy with it. It's a big difference for the first few meter of ascent thanks to the small pulleys. The cam is less aggressive than Petzl's which I think is a good thing. Comfort is very good, only disadvantage is for thicker ropes like my old and fluffy Vortex it's a little bit too tight with space to work like I want it to but for usual access-rope it's perfect.

Fellas....Ive got experience tree climbing, but from the old school. I"ve got new school tools but want to make sure i'm safe. Right now i'm using DRrt (I think). Throw bag over a limb then installing a two ringed rope saver grom the ground along with my climbing line. I've got a two handed ascender made by petzl that i'm using to ascend the tree, but how do I back that up? In the instruction manual it suggests anchoring both ends of my rope to the base of the tree. I got that part, but should I be using something additional that attaches to my climbing line to "catch" me if this go south?

I found the ASAP by petzl $230, the Singing Rock $90(an Italian company), the Easy Move by Climbing Technologies, and finally the Kong Fall Arrest $149.00.

Question: Am I thinking about this the right way? Do I anchor to the base and buy a fall arrest device?

Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Cheers!
