Petzl OK carabiners

Just curious. Has anyone had/or have a problem with these carabiners "sticking" (not closing!automatically).

RON, I apologize if im wrong, but I'm thinking I remembered you refering to the OKs at one point. Even maybe the "action " of them. Same problem.

May have been a dream?

But anyway they have gottin to the point of retirement after only about 4 months. ?
 
I have noticed checking brand new ones at competition that they seem to have or get a small bur that catches when the gate goes to close.
 
I like the DMM but I want to start buying rock exotica cause they are made in the USA. yay america! any other biners made here?
 
Sometimes the timing is off on on spin auto lock caribiners. I have seen it in all manufactuers. Dmm so far has the least.
 
I have noticed that also matty. have not noticed that on any other biner. It has made me aware to check every time. Every biner I check. Cant remember doing that on the basic old clip.
 
i love my DMM biners. Best out there, or at least in my gear bag

i have noticed this problem with the petzls. usually its a sap issue for me though. Ive since switched life supported gear to DMM

Matt showed me his biners.

Really, really bad.

I thought sap right away.

I used mineral spirits on them.

Not a bit better.

I then have them soaking in PB blaster. I solvent for rusted metal, even though they are aluminum. I don't know what else to try. It's not helping. I'll try an oil next, even though it will accumulate sawdust.

Matt said he tried the graphite and it almost seemed to make them worse.

I'm telling you, these were bad, real bad. Stayed fully open.

I swear it looked as if the aluminum had oxidized really bad around the pivet area.

I don't think this will be the end of this talk.

His biners have not been though anything odd, like salts or chemicals. This is not good.

Shame, they were a really nice shaped biner for the rope guide pulley and prussic setup.
 
Send them back to Petzl. Go on their website and send an message to customer service explaining the problem. They will call you within a few days to discuss the problem then probably have you return them for an inspection to determine the cause of the problem.
 
My fave biners are DMM but my close second is the Petzl A'MD ball locks, they are soooo easy to open no matter how they are oriented but they stay closed in all situations, unless YOU open them.

Hello all. Same experience here. I contacted Petzl about a problem I had with my Vertex Vent. The sizing says it should have fit me but it didn't (too large). Sent them an email, they responded promptly, and sent out a new thicker head band free of charge. I was very happy with their response.

my DMM ultra o does that too, except it only sticks sometimes when I open the gate fully. It is brand new, and everything works great, but I cant understand why it sticks every now and then. do they not come lubed? I know its not oxidization of a bad spring, the only thing I can think of is a burr or it could be that the locking mechanisms timing is a little off...
