Petzl I\'D question

OK so I'm setting up a RADS srt system and want to use an I'D for the friction device. There seen to be 2 sizes.
I'm climbing of Lava (11.5 mm) and Goldstreak (13mm) so I would like to use the LARGE version as it sounds like both rope sizes will work (?!?). Anyone know if there are any concerns/limitation of using the large I'D version?
Thanks in advance.
Rob

Re: Petzl I\'D question

Check the manufacturer's specifications on their homepage.

Have you considered the Edelrid Eddy? You'd have to use 11.?mm rope but I think there are advantages to using a smaller tool.

There are posts on the Eddy, just look in the archives/search.

are you getting a nickel for everyone of these sold? the way you push the eddy witch has been over seas for more time then here I'd think you get something for its sales.

Re: Petzl I\'D question

I have two of the small id's and have had good luck with them. I think they're better suited for descending than a grigri. Rather large heat sinks. I'd love to trade one for an eddy but I doubt I'll find any takers.

Hollen,

I'm not a commissioned sales clerk. 90% of my gear I have to buy. When I find something that works especially well I share what I've found so that other climbers can take advantage of what I've found.

The Eddy came out at the same time in Europe as in the US. The distribution network isn't as developed here.

Re: Petzl I\'D question

mind if I ask why you never use it? Any real likes/dislikes? What kind of ropes were you running on it? I'm still not sure which I'D or device I really want...

Re: Petzl I\'D question

Im a gear nut and wanted to try it out, used it a few times just to decend a singleline like when coming down a pull line from a log etc but for me it didnt seem worth carrying it around when I can just use a munter hitch on a binner. Good safe tool but it is bulky. Just seems to sit in my tool box now....

I was climbing on hi-vee 1/2" and use 1/2 9/16 stable braid as work line . It seemed compatible with all of these if I can remember correctly

Re: Petzl I\'D question

In my experiance, the large works fine on 11-13mm ropes.

Blue Streak, Velocity, Tachyon, Blaze, and Posion Ivy are the ropes I believe I've used mine on.
