Palm ‘lumber? Questions

There are so many sawmill videos to watch. When I need to relax I like seeing what lumber the. Sawyer slabs out of a trunk.

A couple of vids showed the milling of palm trunks. There was no species mentioned

My experience w palms is about thirty minutes this side of none

These frunks were straight and long. The slabs looked like hard and soft wood. I’ve been under the impression that palm trunks are more fibrous though

Can the wood they’re milling be used for building. What does palm wood compare too.

It's weird stuff. My buddy has turned some nice bowls out of it. He says it doesn't crack easily when it dries, and just saved a palm log for making sets of bowls with. I believe that he actually made one into a bowl with a lid that snaps into a groove in the bowl and makes a pretty good seal. He's done them with a variety of woods, so he has a dialed technique, but all I know is he loves the stuff.

In SA the Indians make blowgun and darts from the palm, and use the cotton like seed tufts from the Kapok tree to fasten to the end.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a palm board, but I’ve seen turned rings or ear lobe plugs. Other turnings too, a friend made tops and platters for spinning tops.
Can be beautiful ‘wood’
