In case anyone does not know there is a OSHA page related to the tree care indusrty to aid in compliance. I just found it so maybe there are some others out there that have not seen it.
Here is another link to an article by William Wiatrowski of the BLS. Since 2002, the US Census uses the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS, pronounced "nixs"). Not to get too technical, but the depth of the classification determines the precision of the data collection for an industry. Wiatrowski makes the point that 2002 is the last year in which fatality data for Tree and Shrub Services is available. The next census will just collect data to the broader category of Landscaping Services. This is a serious concern to tree workers, as judging the effectiveness of safety programs will become more difficult. This is a good read, and something to get up in arms about.
