Sooner or later I'll combine a tree work video with a rescue vid, until then...
This one was in a tough spot, unexpected finish, cat came to me while I was setting a trap, walked right in. I would have estimated 10-13 lbs weight by the overall size of the cat but it turned out he hadn't eaten in a long time, well before he got stuck in a tree. He was skin and bones @6 lbs., took a good 24 hours of subcutaneous fluids to bring him back to normal.
This is a red-tailed hawk baby that fell out of a high nest at the very top of a white pine. Amazing that this very young hawk survived the fall and was found on the ground alive. Took a week of rehab work to get it back in good shape and ready to be put back in the nest. Turned out one of the parents was unhappy with me climbing to the nest. After I put the baby in I was putting some thawed out frozen mice into the nest (at the request of the rehabber) and the male parent pounced on my hand putting a couple of talon scratches into my fingers. I was more surprised than hurt, first time any raptor has defended a nest, usually they stay away.
