North American Tree Climbing Championship

I have heard there will be a North American Tree Climbing Championship next year. The only details I have heard is it will be held in Savannah, GA. Who knows if and when this is supposed to be held.

Wow. I just mentioned this in the ETCC thread. Is that a coincidence?

This is supposed to be an ISA event similar to the ETCC, where each chapter can send their chapter winner to ITCC, but chapters can also send winners (or hold a separate runoff comp) to the (relatively) local sanctioned event to avoid paying for, say, a trip to Sydney. Only one male and female champ will come from the NATCC, as well as one from each chapter. Hopefully the NATCC champ will be a runner up from somewhere else. As far as I know, it's all still up in the air. I bet we'll know more by CHI.

We're planning to hold a mini-comp with the top climbers from this year's NETCC eligible to compete. I forgot how many men/women we are allowing, but it's all still contingent on whether the NATCC will actually happen.

Edit: Here's text from our website...

ten men and 5 women will advance to the NEC-ISA Tree Climbing Qualifier to represent the Chapter in Savannah, Georgia at the National Tree Climbing Conference in February 2011. Today’s top 7 men and 3 women automatically advance to this exciting new ISA event. The remaining positions (3 men, and 2 women) will be filled by past New England Champions.

...I think that individual chapters can send who they wish, but I'm not clear on whether or not there are rules set forth by ISA.

I would love to see a North American Tree Climbing Championship. Lot's of details to iron out, but if it were modeled after the Euro TCC we'd have a great event on our hands!

I think charlotte has been deemed as the open world championships.

That has been my goal. ANYONE can compete and win it all.

World Class. No exceptions.

Now if only I could get Rich Hattier to come back next year

Tom, you being facetious? Unheard of.

In reality, we have not had the ability to send a climber to the ITCC as a representative of the CAA. This is something that we are working hard to correct. Step one is to try to become a professional affiliate of the ISA.

When we are granted a spot at the big show, we will for sure pay for the winner's travel to the ITCC.

Money grows on trees, don't you know.

On, in, under, and around, is what I have found. Put me on the petition to sign on the CAA's behalf! If I can help in any way with this effort, please let me know. Again, not being facetious.

I may be speaking a little out of turn here, but things are looking very good for this comp to come off. It is still early in the discussion stages and more definite word will be out by mid September. I am sure that as soon as things come closer to finalization, word will get out. As anyone who has been involved with planning and producing these competitions knows, it takes a lot of hands, and not just the few days of the competition. Stay tuned.
