Noise on my twin disc clutch

When I engage the clutch and the chipper sits at idle there is a kinda of wonky noise coming from the clutch. Once I throttle up I can't hear it but then again chippers are loud machines.

Any idea if this is the pilot or throw out bearings??

Wonky is not a whole lot to go off of, lol. If it is bearing noise your hearing pilot bearing would likely not make noise when engaged. If the output bearings are dry sometimes they will quiet down if you pump them full of grease.

We grease the zerks about once a week. I used to grease them more but there got to be too much grease slipped off on to the bell housing.

Yeah, ours do it too. Wonky is actually a pretty good description. No apparent problems or issues, and we just don't let them sit at idle with the clutch in very long.

Bandit 1290XP (15" drum) with the 140 hp Deere and Twin Disc clutch, and Morbark M15R (15" drum) with the 140 hp Deere and a WPT clutch. I think the noise is much worse on the 5 year newer, lower hour Morbark, but I'm gonna have to check.

Bandit 90xp with SP111HP3 clutch. It's a 2007 that I bought in 2014 with 100 hours on it. Here is a video, you can hear the ''wonky'' noise best after I've dropped the motor back down to idle. It's alaways done this, never thought anything about it but I could very well be in the wrong!

I can't hear the clutch over the diesel can you repeat without the motor running? Just kidding, mine has a similar clunky noise. I bought mine directly at the manufacturer 's warehouse, conveniently 30 minutes away. When we installed the clutch, it acted up some. Gary at twin disc said bring it by. Shop guy listened to it run said the bearing was out of spec or something. I pulled clutch in their parking lot, guy disassembled and reassembled and we reinstalled. In and out in 1 1/2 hours. Been 3 years since. Great guys. Great Lakes Power Products- local twin disc guy 586-759-0527

@matdand it looks like your clutch is adjusted way to loose. It's hard to tell in a video but it looked way to easy to engage your clutch.
I couldn't really hear any wonkey noise but it's tough listening to a recording.

It's just cause I'm so strong ! Haha

Actually, the clutch is pretty hard to engage, I have to put some weight into it, but it does look easy in the video. I do want someone to service it at some point this year, just to make sure. The noise is best heard @ :31 and :38.

Adjusting it is pretty simple. There is a torque spec on the data plate for the force required to engage. You can put a torque wrench on the nut at the base of the handle to check it. If it's out pull the data plate off. There is a collar/ring that is held into position by a spring loaded locking pin. Push the pin in and tighten the collar. Then recheck where your at with the torque wrench.

So, if Im following correctly, you were right, it would be loose, under 100 lbs.

So I would check the torque here:
