No wires

Other side had a horizontal failure. The tree was making quite a bit of noise.

Tree had about a 100' spread and tie in point was about 75' We used redirected rigging for the whole tree the rope angles also sqweezed the do-dom together.

First off Great job. You guys really have it all figured out.

Couple question, how long did the entire removal take? Also i'm still learning, could you explain what you were doing in this picture, its probably obvious and i just can't figure it out. You can PM if its easier.

Awesome work as usual Todd.

I remember first reading in the April 2004 ISA mag. about how you used that same DWT tech. to remove a large oak that had a split all the way into the ground.

That article and tech. made a lasting impression on me and I kept it in my rigging files.

I am bidding on a similar job this week but the tree may be too far gone to safely climb.

All the wood stayed cut to 16" lengths. That was a pain. The job took 2 days, including one 26" Oak prune. First day was a bit short. We did not get there till 8:45. On that wood the rigging point was very high but about 25' way horizantilly. We used a but tie, drift line at the cut then face cut towards the rigging point and crank it with the winch till the tip tie is aimed at the rigging point. Once the hinge breaks drift the load till center mass is under the riging point then lower.

I think i got it. Thanks for answering. Man i would love to work the ground for removals like this to rack your brain, and see The different techniques you use. Great job once again.

this is why i come to this site..to observe and learn...thanks for the lesson tod. Spreading the load with multiple crotches and changeing load angle is just amazing. I use it quite frequently. I've only used a GRCS a few times and i wish i had one on every job.
 
ok...i came up with a few questions. First, what does DWT stand for. I know what it does, but i can't figure out the acronym. Second, If the DWT was tensioned with a GRCS, how was it locked off. I noticed it was left in the tree until the spar was on the ground, and you also rigged with a GRCS. So unless you used two GRCSs, how do you hold the tenion on the DWT?
