I'm not the best climber around but I do have alot of field experience, and head knowledge in the field of arboriculture. The most I ever made working for someone else was $19/hr CAD that about $15/hr USD. A long time ago when I was dragging brush PT my uncle said to me 'you'll never get ahead working your life for a private company, by the time your 30 you need to be in a municipality paying into a pension or out on your own' 27 and out on my own ......hope hes right.

He's probably right. (maybe I'm just trying to make you feel good.)

Seriously, the first thing that I would encourage any self employed people out there to do is start your own retirement -today! Time is one of the critical factors in fund plans. The longer you wait, the less you'll have. Don't wait another week. Start paying yourself first, now!

I see this job posting is turning into a 401k retirement discussion. Thanks guys. /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll start a retirement thread and hope people without jobs will still respond.

thanks for that, just the kind of inspiration im looking for at the moment as im on the brink of going self employed

thats true too, and saying that, i know a few people who have gone self employed for a year then gone back to their old jobs.
i guess its down to dedication at the end of the day.
i know one guy, probably one of the best climbers i know, gets top dollar(or pound) but then he'll only work a 3 day week because of it.
personally the more i earnt the more days i'd be out

25-30 hr???? Not around here, unless, you are a sub. As a full time employee around K.c. the best you will ever make hourly as a climber is in the 18-22 hr range. However that's more than likely fairly seasonal. Or you can go to a co. like my former; be top climber; work tons of hours, and come home w/ a total package value of around 38,000-40,000 yr. That includes the value of every possible benefit known to man.

Or option b: go out on your own. If you have the proper drive and the knowledge; This option includes being extremely stressed out and making 40,000-60,0000 your first year. Also includes more responsiblity, however more freedom. And not to mention alot less b/s to deal w/.

Make your decision!

******Actual figures depend on luck and qualifications.

Well, if there are any hard workers out there that are looking to work in NJ (and didn't sign up with Treedr yet) private message me. We need all kinds, especially climbers- line clearance experience a plus, but would love a great ground worker with a CDL and the ability to operate machines, too /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif.
