Newark man waves gun at tree-cutters

Theoretically a utility should be able to enforce it. Utilities do "Own" the land that the phase wires are on. There is a "Utility Easement", so they should have Eminent Domain(sp?). Instead of irreparably damaging these trees (I think we can all agree that trees are poorly pruned from time to time), they should hire our well trained Utility Foresters to properly and safely remove the affected trees and then hire our well trained Utility Foresters to replant appropriate spp., at the correct planting depth of course, with an exposed root flare. Win win?

Where there's trees that matter. they oughta' run em' underground (just like every major city in the US).

How bout' under the street/sidewalks? Maybe trenchless?

Would pay for it self in pruning costs alone, not to mention saving lives.

Anyhoo...

one span of underground is about 3X as expensive to install, than the added cost of maintenance (have to be dug up every time to fix), shorter lifespan not as durable underground, and actually not as safe as overhead, one small cut in the insulation energizes the ground a lot more than a fallen primary.

I've had a gun pointed at me on a job site, he's still in jail all over a decrepid property, which the city condemmed and bulldozed everything.

People just need to know OUR rights as well as theirs.

I think the cost comparison is a limited view which doesn't take into account the real value of suburban trees. It may be easier but in a more holistic evaluation it would not prove to be cheaper to all the stakeholders of the urban canopy.
