new work truck

I have 2 Dodges, a 3/4 ton and a 1-ton flatbed. Both with cummins, both are awesome haulers, and both have 150K plus miles. I am totally offended you think they are cheap looking, I love the looks of them. Anyway, sounds like the Ford you found is probably your best deal. Happy hunting.

25g for pulling a 16 ft trailer with brush on it? spend 10 on a heap and 15 on a chipper. Did I mention a chipper yet? get a chipper! contact space ghost he has what you need. You will never regret the chipper. I hated loading brush, then cutting, then loading, then cutting, then unloading. CHIPPER. A lot of people will take chips not many will take brush. Good luck, just another option.

hey, my names roger and I like to make sense all the time.

Your right roger, I should go with that plan, but then I'll pay a couple billion dollars to add a chip truck and chipper onto comercial insurance.

If the biz picks up a bit more then I will probably buy a stump grinder. I know I know it sounds crazy but I've been offered a couple of sub contracting jobs for stumps. Anyway I can make the money I'm gonna chase it. At that point I can use the trailer and the truck to haul my stumper.

Noel, your truck looked bad ace for sure, but Im just not a huge dodge fan. No offense meant dude.

Watch out on those older 7.3s. Depending on the year you you'll probably see anything from cam sensor problems, unexplained water leaks and turbo problems.

A few of my buddies are experienced ford and cummins cert. mechanics and they say the 7.3 international is a barely a 150,000 mile engine.

I wouldn't be surprised that they are slightly partial to Cummins. I don't think that is the general consensus for the older 7.3 Liter International engines the Fords put in.

Again, my neighbor has (2) F250's. One of the trucks has over 700k miles on it. The other has over 400k miles. Sure he has had to replace tranny's, but the engines and turbos have held up for him. That is his experience with them. Maybe it comes down to maintenance. --Dunno.

I've also heard lots of guys praise the duramax, but I don't know anything about the 6.0 ford.

My Isuzu has a inline 6cyl. Duramax with the Allison transmission. She's reliable with starting on cold days, she purrs much quieter than the Ford, she's reliable when driving and she shifts nicely too.

No complaint with the Duramax & Alli combo over here.

I agree with Brendon. I bought my F350 with 205k on it. The previous owner was a cars salesman who wanted to look tough in a truck. So, it acquired freeway miles quickly from him going to work and back. Now, however, I have been putting it to the test.

I'm not a die hard loyal fan of any manufacture of vehicles at all. My preference, when I was shopping for trucks, was to get the GMC (or Chevy) Duramax & Alli combo. But, the Ford was local, white (I like white for a business truck), the engine was very clean (no oil problems), and ready to go...

Next step for me would be to get it chipped.

But, that will have to be 5 years down the road, when the economy picks up again...

bredon, we can be best pals if you find a 6.0 ford engine on that site that has lasted 150,000+.

This is a good deal. Me being your best friend means that I'll call you in the middle of the night crying because of a dream I had. We can watch scary movies together and I'm very good at painting nails. Also, I'm one of the best listeners around.

Think about it and get back to me.

Oh yeah, I also make awesome pizza bagels and I make a ton of bad decisions on the daily that you can learn from without having to actually do it.

Questionable.

There exists a possibility that Familytree is being sarcastic, as in, being his friend is not really a good deal, but by verbalizing that it is in fact a good deal, the listener would interpret his sarcasm by the tone in which it was delivered.

Usually works best with face to face communication, certainly not ideal in a written medium such as an online forum.

I would not take this deal if I were you, Brendon. I myself am one step away from being FT's long lost soul mate, and believe me, it is not worth the agony.

On the plus side, if you do befriend him, he might leave some of his tree gear to you in his final will and testament.

So I hit the lots hard this weekend. Every salesman and dealer I met should be kicked in the mouth. I got bait and switched twice. I looked at a really nice duramax diesel, took it back to the shop, put it up on the lift, found a few little odds and ends

Small leak in trans line, small leak in power steering line. Tires were whooped and the cab was cigarette stained really bad. I decided to go for it anyway. The truck trader mag said 25,000, the sticker on the truck said 27,000 and the saleman told me 29,000.

I said 22,000. Needless to say I'm still looking. If you guys see anything nice out there please let me know. Also, the 6.0 ford is no longer on my list. I've heard nothing but horror stories all weekend long

I am also in the market for a stumper, hoping to pay 15-18k on it. If you know of anything give me a shout. Thanks

This is a bit Unbelieveable so I figured I'd share. I finally chose a truck, a 2008 chevy 2500hd 4x4 with the duramax diesel and Allison transmission and it's a four door. It's awesome. So I just finished signing the papers, I was literally there for 3 hours. I walk out front to get into my new truck and the salesman told me "something happened"

Apparently, when the guys backed it out of the garage after being detailed they dragged the whole passenger side truck bed across the wall. They dented and scratched the whole bed.

I flipped, I literally just signed the papers. They told me that they will get it right, they are replacing the whole panel and putting new paint. I told them that I'm backing out of the deal unless I am 100% satisfied with the work. They said okay and I got it in writting. Now I have to wait until the body shop is done before I get my truck.

I'm still a bit fired up. This could only happen to me.

I bought a 1954 Willy's pickup in really nice shape from a young guy in Freetown Mass like 10-12 years ago. The angle of the trailer we were using to tow it home was too steep, and he ripped the entire exhaust system right off the manifold while driving it up on to the trailer. He was delivering it for free, so I couldn't gripe too much. Things like this do happen to the rest of us! Don't sweat it, it'll be fine! Good luck with the new toy!

thats the problem with nice trucks, it sucks when you put dents and dings in it especially with all the things in tree work that make dents and dings.

Embrace entropy.

What made you decide on a quad cab for a work truck?

I think familytree wants to make sure he has room for all of his friends in there. And of course, his eight sets of climbing gear.
