New Tribe Onyx Saddle discussion in light of the newest saddle releases

For those who have used both the monkey beaver and monkey beaver 2.0 I’m curious how much better you like it in comparison if it’s worth the price difference.
I like the adjustable bosun strap feature, it adjusts on the fly quickly and easily. If you do any crane work, or cabling, where you'll be hanging on rope in the same spot for a while, it adds a good deal of support and comfort IMO. The adjustable lumbar support is also a nice touch. The modularity wasn't something that was a selling point for me as I have it set up just like the original, but I can see how others might appreciate the options.

I have experience with the Onyx, OG MB, and the MB 2.0 so I thought I would share my thoughts.

The back pad construction and geometry is different on each of these saddles so preference is gonna come down to ones body type and how they like their saddle to sit on their hips.

Gear storage options on the Onyx and the MB 2.0 are vastly superior to the OG MB

The side/hip dees on both versions of the MB are vastly superior to the Onyx. The Onyx side dees have a strange downward angle which can cause some discomfort for many. The side dees on the Onyx are also placed further back on the harness and if your waist is in the upper size range of the saddle it can cause the side dees to be way too far back. No fucking bueno in my book.

Both the Onyx and MB 2.0 have the butt/bosun strap, and the OG MB does not.. This straps effect is very subtle and really shouldnt be a determining factor in deciding which saddle to chose.

The suspension on all are very similair with ease of adjustability going to both version of the MB. The biggest difference is in the leg pad strap setup, and buckle placement. Again which one you prefer is gonna come down to body type and personal preference.

As usual your best bet is to fly before you buy.

MB 2.0 > Onyx > MB

.....maybe

I've been using the Onyx for a while and have no qualms, save maybe the side D placement @rico mentioned, but it hasn't been a major issue for me.

The main reason I've avoided the MB lineup is because I hate the name. Kinda pedantic eh? Welcome to the world of arborists.

Not sure why I would be mad about grocery and gas prices when we are lucky to be able to take care of the land and grow some of the best home grown produce and local meat and fish it’s worth the hard work as it gives so much in return, always have fresh coconut water. It really depends how you want to live and what you value.

Thanks Rico I appreciate hearing your feedback on the saddles coming from someone like you.

Your welcome Alan. There is a plethora of very good saddles available these days, which can make choosing a new saddle a daunting task. Just sharing my experience with the 3 saddles being discussed here in the hope that someone will find it helpful.

I was considering the mb 2.0 but went with a treemotion pro as I had the 2018 and liked it and wasn't sure I'd like the bulkyness of the mb since I do a lot of oaks and most of time is spent doing small less tone consuming tasks in awkward positions I might get a mb 2.0 later for big pine removals.
