You are side loading with a clam style grapple right? You don't have a bmg right? Have you used one? I'll bet it would make stacking logs more easy then a clam. I have never used a clam on a mini though. No the piston set up is arranged so you cannot get the piece far away from the machine when lowering (or lifting) to put it more to the center of the dump trailer. Bit disappointing, but life will go on.
Our dump trailer is boxed. 6' walls removable roof. I can stack 8'-12' logs easier then 6' and under. With the bmg I can stack them higher then the grapple hangs. We put one end of the log on the end of trailer, or end of current stack in trailer, go to other end and grab/lift and push till its balanced in, then shove er the rest of the way up in with the highest part of the jib part where the grapple dangles from. The newer bmgs actually have serrated teeth on that spot. I've been able to load large logs I can barely pic one end up. Actually we've loaded logs I can't pic one end up with by starting/pushing it onto the trailer with the ramp.
