You're tying in with a second short rope or lanyard when you're cutting stuff right? ;-)

Absolutely. I usually climb above everything that I want to cut, tie in with my safety line, and work down, extending the safety line with the prussik as I go. I'll tie off with the other end of the safety line when a limb is convenient, and retrieve the one above. If there's no limb, I make a loop around the tree that'll pull tight if I move down. All of this is pretty easy, and it's certainly worth the peace of mind.

Yep, whatever way you do it, always wise to have two points of life support attachment when the hand saw is out of the scabboard or the chainsaw is running.
