New helmet

My ol' trusty Kask is about due for a replacement and I'm looking for advice on a replacement....or rather accessories that will fit a replacement. I want to find a mesh visor that will fit a Kask or Alveo. When I say fit I mean when it's down it covers the whole face and when it's up it stows low profile over the helmet, not sticking out like a giant baseball cap. I have the old forestry Peltor mesh on my Kask right now but it sits way too close to the face and only covers down to my mouth. The Protos seems to be a great design but it is just too damn flashy for me and I have a tiny head so I'm worried the bobble head effect would be even greater. My Kask fits OK and the design on the Alveo seems to be much better than the Vertex so those are the two I'm looking at. If anyone can point me in the right direction (maybe the euros can chime in) on a full face visor that stows low profile that would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I'm with you on the protos.. I love em. I'd just be self conscious as hell wearing one. I use a vertex best. The visor and muffs from a husky forestry helmet fit great. Covers my whole face without being too close, and stays as much out of the way as any visor. Just my 2¢

I had a vertex before I bought my kask. I could never get it to fit right. Always flopped around, probably partly due to my child size head. That's why I'm curious about the alveo, it seems to fit closer to the head.

Kask has a new mesh visor out for about $30. I haven't tried it, but it may be better than the 3m version.

The only Kask mesh visor that I know of is for the new Zenith helmet and I can't find any pictures of the visor flipped up. It looks like it would stick out a lot though.

That looks badass.....so the big question. How does it sit when the visor is flipped up? Do you mind posting a photo?

It sticks out but has never been a problem....keeps shit out on windy days....which are daily here..I flip itdown in dense stuff and when wide open crowns only put it down when cutting....strong as fuck2016-09-11 21.55.10.webp

Thanks for posting. I did a little research and it looks like they're a rugged product. I'm still on the prowl for something that sits further back on the helmet. Anyone else have suggestions?

You should be buying a helmet that does the job you need it to do. Too many arborists are using Type 1 helmets when they should be using a Type 2. Vented helmets should never, ever be used near electricity, whether you are up the tree or on the ground.

I have a Kask, no complaints. In the NC/Charlotte area heat. Anything is going to be hot. Sure it may get a little funky, but what doesn't? I wear mesh backed ball caps (not working) and they get funky just like anything else, so that arguement holds no water with me. I have a fairly big head. Plenty of fit and adjustment. I highly recommend the mirrored visor. I don't have a carrying case for mine, and the visor did get scratched a few places while in the box on the truck some how, but I don't even wear safety glasses anymore, and find that when I rely on the safety glasses, I get more debris in my eyes vs the shield. Sorry, I know I should always wear eye wear on the job site, but I love flipping the visor up while taking a break in the tree, dragging brush while there's no debris coming out of the tree and the chipper isn't running, etc, and not having to worry about losing my glasses. Let's face it, in the summer, the glasses are constantly on and off due to fogging and such.

Back to the Kask, it's got a foam lining with a sweat band (gets a little funky) but it beats the hell out of a suspension system helmet IMO. Nice snug fit without tightening it down so far that it hurts your head and noworrying about it sliding around. The chin strap is nice too, doesn't grab ahold of that 5:00 shadow and pull it.

I've tried on a Protos, before buying the Kask and visor....money wasn't an issue, and for me, the Kask won.

Yeah I made the mistake, Class is the issue with working around energized conductors, not type. Class E.
