Are you asking if there should be a primary progress capture AND a safety backup on a hook line?

I guess I haven't been following this thread too closely, but you've got the wrong idea in your head. The hook is just a supplement for getting you into a better position or moving to a new spot while you are still connected to your primary life support line. Think of it as a long lanyard that can be connected to a limb that is beyond reach. Just like you can use various devices or methods to adjust your lanyard, including using a foot ascender on the tail, and using it in SRT mode, so can you with the hook. It's not necessary - and frowned upon by the manufacturerer - to use it for vertical accent, but that would limit which devices could be used for progress capture on your hook line.

Also, the hook can be purchased without the accompanying 10 mm line. You can put whichever line on it you please.

Anyone using a slc pin or replaced loop that comes with the captains hook with a quickie. I was thinking about stitching up a sewn eye to use with it but would like to be able to easily take the rope off.

Same thing I do. Works great and I actually like the extra weight. I use the largest link that fits onto the swivel shackle. You can also attach the link back to your harness to MRS your way back from whatever branch your hook was on.

I think the risk comes while it is setting. Once it gets under the load it's pretty much same as using soft shackle in regular soft shackle uses as usual .

But who knows !? As everyone had wished I may will be posting anything here anymore at all & dead !!! LMAO

I do have more concerns with that anything will get caught on a branches or twigs where there is an eye . Just like throw weight ring gets caught .

So , throwing into heavy thick canopy with that set up might influences it big time.
I usually put small diameter hole or I should rather say adequate size of black grommet O-ring "s" on a soft shackle to prevent that knob get wiggling out from the loop and also to make entire loop into one straight double line . To minimize soft shackle getting caught on the twigs . To make the soft shackle loop into double line you may use "ZIP Ties" instead of Rubber O rings . Heck.
Due to its characteristics of rubber grommets it doesnt make any of that annoying noises. Jingling metal sounds might be good for repelling bears it might be but real Pro says those bear bells wont do a thing but simply wasting time away to repel them . It would rather "attracts" and giving clues to those really hungry and "Real Deal MAD as hell bears that is really going to "HUNT" you down then murder you abd chew your inners out from your belly with absolutely no hesitations . What do you expect from a Real MAD bears ? Are you gonna say it's just a joke ? Well, good luck on that.

This whole idea of using soft shackle is very whacky idea but it seems working beautifully so far.

But again, hook is not a PPE device and so as using this whacky idea of soft shackle with O rings or Zip ties to cinch it down together also. One does need careful observations and check on each components especially no Elasticities , dried out & cracked "BLACK" O-rings , and each connections carefully before you climb is absolutely essential to prevent any unexpected incident which might happens one day on my body & my life . Just use a quickie and a piece of rubber tubing to slide over the eye of you're that worried about it. I have thrown a throw ball 10s of thousands of times I've probably only had the eye it's self get stuck on a twig once or twice I'm not to worried about the eye on my hook getting stuck.
