Checked it out and all I can say is WOW!! At first I was trying to figure out how you could afford such nice equipment doing tree work. After reading a little more into it I see cutting trees is just a small part of your buisness. Being diverse is definetly the key to success and you seemed to have it down to a science. Congrats on your success I can only hope to have such a diverse and organized system in the future.

Just hook the sling to the hook.

Is that the question you were axing?

Every click a different pic!

Dooley you and your equipment suck I am sooo jealous man.
Really the truck looks great. What is the boom height on the crane?

Re: New Crane, paint&logo

Dooley now that you've had that rig for a month or so how do you like it as a rear mount? What do you like or dislike with this unit compared to your other crane?

Re: New Crane, paint&logo

You mean as compared to a behind the cab rig, or a rider seat mounted over the rear axles? All the rear mount load charts I've looked at give up some capacity as compared to a rider. Its a stability issue I believe. I'd take a rear mount over a behind the cab, and a rider over a rear mount. I just sold my Terex 3470, pitched on this site by me a couple weeks ago. I sold it local to an outfit that does ag work, silos and grain mills type of work. I got 85K for it, my asking price. I am replacing it with a lightly used Manitex 22101S, it has the best load chart of any I've looked at, and I've looked at them all. I'll report back in a week or so with pictures and how it stacks up to a behind the cab, all I've ever run. Wade: nice operation, purty rigs! TomTom

Re: New Crane, paint&logo

Our crane is behind the cab and I am contemplating the next crane as a rear mount. The local crane dealer has a couple of used larger cranes, one is behind the cab the other is a rear mount. I think my unit may be a little short...maybe it's just boom envy...

Re: New Crane, paint&logo

I made the drive to Salt Lake over the weekend to test drive a used Manitex 22101S. The Kenworth had close to 800,000 miles on it, and after idling for 10 minutes still had not built up enough air for the brakes. I got greasy just looking at it, the cab smelled tired and worn out, all the knobs and switchs were worn smooth, this looked like a HARD 800,00 miles.

The crane had a bumpety bump as it rotated, kinda like a truck wheel with loose/missing lug nuts. The seat was wore out, and like the truck it all had an air of neglect and/or abuse. The claimed 1800 hours of crane time was hard to swallow, maybe he meant to say 18,000 hours. Other then that it was cherry.

I had pictures, but deleted them as I was afraid just having them stored in the digital card that hydraulic fluid would leak into my camera. Man, my sold 2 year old crane has spoiled me, its clean as a whistle still. The search continues.

Wade: does it look doable to fab a trailer hitch on the south end of your rig? It would appear it would have to secured to or around the rear stabilzer.? My 3470 had the standard DOT crashbar, and the hitch install was a snap, I gotta tow my Soob behind me on most jobs I go to. Also: any concern or problems yet with rear overhang, pulling into unimproved sites? That rear stab looks like a good hanger upper. The Manitex configeration would appear to be the winner here, it has a very short overhang behind the rear axle, kinda like a Mini-Cooper, only bigger. I'm either flying to Florida or Arizona (to see Peter)this weekend to look at a few more. Stay tuned.

Good point that I hadn't considered. I do like the idea of being able to get a rear mount unit close to a tree for better boom angles but of course going to a larger capacity unit with more boom length might negate that concern.
